Americans Need To Start Pushing Back Against Draconian Lockdowns
The Federalist ^ | 13 April 20 | Molly McCann

Posted on 04/13/2020 9:51:53 AM PDT by Bruiser 10

On April 11, The Washington Post ran an article about plans being made to reopen the economy. The article complains that state governors (rather than the White House) are leading the planning, which has resulted in a “mind-boggling level of disorganization,” according to a Centers for Disease Control director.

The incessant bleating of prominent health leaders over the lack of federal control in this crisis only underscores how little they understand or respect this country’s Constitution and the freedoms it seeks to protect. Although the White House certainly has emergency authority to mandate all number of efforts to respond to crisis, and obviously can pressure local leaders, the coronavirus has highlighted the structural nature of the Constitution and that one of the saving graces in the insanity we are living through is that lockdowns are local.

Our country’s structure is pretty straightforward on paper, even if things get a little complicated once all the parts start moving in real time. When the states formed the Union, they ceded power to a federal government cautiously, carefully granting to Congress enumerated powers and creating checks and balances to keep the federal government from evolving into tyranny. At least, that was the plan.

The states retained their historic “police power.” The police power is a state’s inherent authority to govern with a view toward its citizens’ health, safety, morals, and general welfare. Certainly, a state’s plenary powers are limited by the U.S. Constitution and state constitutions, but absent those restrictions, a state’s power is very broad.

I believe DJT is acting responsibly and that the economy will come roaring back once he opens things up. Why on earth would anyone allow the intentional destruction of our economy if they feel it’s unnecessary?

This will happen sooner rather than later. One nice thing about the lockdown is that those liberal NYC trolls are forced to live in their multi-story, multi-rate hell. Serves them right.

Apologies to the few, intelligent, and discerning folks there who loathe the left.

There is no logic in the stay at home order here in MI. My neighbors are still both working, can go to Walmart for groceries, but my husband can’t go to the cabin on his hunting property by himself. Heil whitmer has a familiar ring for some reason.

This week new cases should be on decline. States and the Federal governments want to be sure it doesn't go back up. I expect that by next week, April 19, low risk areas will start back up, and full restart in swing by May 1 if not earlier. People have to work to buy food, we have to restart soon, period.

It will not come back if people are to scared to be around more than ten people..

Business will not start up if you have to be tested..wear masks..

Then there the slip and fall lawyers...

There going after Wal Mart..

1,500,000 employees and two have died...in Chicago

Does anyone know if there are other deaths at Walmart

If this virus is so bad...they should be dropping like flies at Wal Mart..

A large, not-social-distanced protest where everyone wears a surgical mask saying “F*** You Dr. Tony” would be a nice start.

The intentional, unnecessary destruction of our economy is a good way to describe the Green New Deal. Yet that has become essentially the official platform of the Democrat Party. They want a continued lockdown to destroy our economy for the same reasons.

Let’s put this to rest once and for all.

They are NOT going to antibody test all 350 million people in this country.

Testing everyone and letting those who test positive for antibodies go to work is NOT going to happen.

Tons of reasons.

- Logistically impossible - No way no how you can produce 350 million tests on any type of reasonable timeframe. No way to administer them to 350 million people. The homeless, the illegals, people living way in the backwoods, the antivaxxers, etc. all will be extremely resistant to testing.

- Civil Liberties - Ultimately drives to force you to have government permission to leave your house will fail in the courts.

- What about those who test negative? They’ll immediately go out and seek ways to get infected so that they can return to work. If you’re going to do that you may as well just reopen and let the chips fall where they may.

The CDC and NIH have been consistently wrong, by orders of magnitude, on the effects of the chinese virus. They are in the CYA mode now by highlighting the worst case scenarios while quietly backtracking on most of their claims.

The conundrum we face is the classic "pink elephant gun" trap. The lockdown is analogous to the gun. The CDC and NIH claim is the gun must be working because we are not seeing pink elephants...or were there ever any pink elephants?

And to please their minders. $$$

Start putting that on a mask now if you are required by a business or provider to wear one for public transit, shopping, etc.

Get a broad tip sharpie so it can be read from 6 feet away. /s

The one thing this nonsense has proved is that the vast majority of our population — including many on this site — are sheep.

It’s very disturbing...
