Grocery stores prepare for tightening social distancing requirements

As we head in to the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in North Carolina, social distancing has become absolutely necessary to reduce exposure for everyone.

Many stores that are still open have started announcing new measures this week for tightening social distancing requirements.

Harris Teeter has announced that they will be implementing customer capacity limits at all stores to further protect associates and shoppers.

According to their press release, "Beginning April 8, Harris Teeter will limit the number of customers to 50% of building code capacity to further support physical distancing in its stores. Store associates will monitor the number of customers to ensure the capacity limit is maintained."

The move comes as Gov. Roy Cooper weighs options for new social distancing requirements for retailers that could force stores like Harris Teeter to limit their capacity even more.

If you don’t mind my asking, are you in a hotspot? Or a large city? It’s still relatively calm in my midwest neck of the woods, but we haven’t had a large number of cases reported yet.

Can't wait for these to start appearing outside of Walmart stores...

Next they will be banning the use of elevators for single person ride only. This will kill the commercial real estate business and ADArequirements.

Clearly, you missed the free enterprise dimension.

Private businesses are there for the owners, and their economic and utility maximization. They aren't there so that every jerk can make their and their customer's life miserable. In a new environment, businesses adopt or go out of business. This twist on the old queuing theory problem helps the business AND good customers.

Are you suggesting they simply let any and every "patron" trample on their private property and clog their checkout counters and make their employees unsafe?

Patriots will start shooting as they should.

Patriots respect private property. Or at least they used to. What you are describing is Hillary democracy, where certain people get a say in how a business owner will serve them, whether or not they approve of how the business owner handles crowd control, and a tacit nod to the store owner not shooting back at the rabble. Rock on, Che.

The behavior you are supporting is akin to what we saw after the Rodney King verdict and Katrina. Who owns these stores? You? Or the shareholder who calls the shots?

I agree...what has happened, indeed

Thank you. This hysteria has to stop.

Wearing a mask on a crowded subway makes sense. Wearing a mask walking down a deserted street or a sparsely populated store? Madness.

I say that all the time now. What happened to this site? FreeRepublic has become one of the most vocal cheerleading sites for the complete destruction of the Constitution.

Then I figured it out...in my tagline.

Good tagline.

I figure disease comes and goes.
I figure economies go up and down.

But if we lose our freedom and decide that state control of our lives is a good thing, then we have lost something that we won’t get back.

“Roy Cooper is a dictator...”

Yeah, a lot of people (not you) seem oblivious to a deeper threat here:

There is the true medical threat from the virus itself, which is very real, and needs to be understood and mitigated based on the best science we can avail ourselves of.

There is the fear factor, that can panic well-intended people, including government bureaucrats and politicians, and media, into over-reacting by irrationally focusing on worst case scenarios instead of most likely scenarios out of “an abundance of caution.” Emotion driven responses can lead to costly mistakes, unintended consequences, and collateral damage.

There is the anti-Trump factor. There is no doubt that Democrat politicians and their MSM shills are not going to “let this crisis go to waste”. Anyone who doubts this, is a moron.

But on the very deepest level there is an agenda far more threatening; namely the Progressive movement, which is just another name for Marxism. Progressives are deeply embedded into all our institutions and seek to destroy us.

Our self-governing Republic is their mortal enemy on Earth. In fact, our founding document, our Constitution, was designed specifically to protect us against them - or any other political movement that would rob us of our natural unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Any time there is a crisis, or something that can be whipped into a crisis, these progressives crawl out of the bureaucratic woodwork to exaggerate, lie, hype, and impute false cause - but mostly to foist upon us their Big Lie:

“You, the helpless lambs, need big government to protect you from [fill in the blank]”. “We know what is best for you, you don’t have a need to know. In fact, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands, so we will protect you from the truth, and tell you whatever will incentivize “scare” you to do “the right thing for the collective”.”

These progressive politicians and bureaucrats are condescending pricks and they lie to us “for our own good”. That is what they do. That is what they did with WMD. That is what they did with Obamacare. That’s what they are attempting with “Climate Change”. That is what they are doing with gun control. That is what they are doing with this virus. The bargain is always the same: we give up our freedom, and give them control over our lives, and they protect us from some future catastrophe.

When this Covid19 virus passes through the US population and kills 20 thousand instead of 20 million, they will not admit they were wrong. Instead, they will say “You’re welcome, we saved you by limiting your freedom and by limiting your access to to truth.”

But it’s what they will say to each other behind closed doors that should have us worried. Something along the lines of: “Wow, that worked. People really ARE like sheep. They will give up their rights in a heartbeat if you scare them. Even the Deplorable Trump supporters fell in line. Good to know.”

I do the groceries, at nearly 72, it’s a PAINfUL chore, I need the electric cart, as I can barely walk, Damaged spine, Neuropathy, Gastro issues. I don’t know what hurts the most, even a trip from the living room to bathroom is Agony. Which have pushed me to Type 2 diabetes. And their damn pills don’t work. Because you can’t change diets. Gastropresis is slow digestion 7 yrs, bread, pasta, soft meats, and baked or mashed potatos. Diabetic is opposit plenty of what is painful for me to eat, it sure doesn’t digest.

We were doing fine til this virus crap. I get groceries, get hair washed/dried small but painful Rotator tare. Can’t get a Pain Pill because of Redfield’s and Kolondony’s LIES. I might get addicted, I took them 7 yrs 5 mg 4 times a day, more worried the bowels will shut down and need a Clolostmy bag. About there now. Need my own freaking electric wheelchair. Grocery store ones suck.

He will be 80 three months, vision sucks, all that heavy metal cleaning agents they use on the Navy ships 20 yrs. At least manages go get our meds. Hearing loss from flight deck.

I’m a High Risk patient. Have a reactions typed full sheet long, their drugs scare me more than this Freaking Virus.

Lived through all the major flu epidemics with no flu shot. They in themselves make me extremely ill. Euthenisia of those over 60 and chronic health issues scares me more than this Virus.

Canada is already doing so, regardless of age, chronic health condition, go with out treatment or get Eutheziized by Little Castro Jr. My Canadian friend has had to drop needed medicines, go through withdrawal from Gabapentin crap is as addictive as Heroin, and then got the virus. He knows his days are numbered, as the Adhesive Arachnoiditis of the spine usually you kill yourself at stage 2, he’s late stage 3. Stage 4 your dead. Little Castro cut what little assistance he had 3 times last year forcing him into poverty. Not able to afford health care not that 1 doc will see him. They are dying on the ER floor while illegals and refuggees get prefered treatmment, he’s offered None or Euthesia. stoborn Highlander Scot will not give Little Castro the win. He’ll die on his terms.

I agree with you completely, except for the danger posed by this particular virus to a healthy, uncompromised person. I have been a medical technologist for over 40 years and well remember the AIDS epidemic which made Dr. Fauci so famous. That virus is much more deadly than this one, but it is behaviorally spread (those that engage in anal sex and IV drug use). I saw with my own eyes how the CDC allowed it to be spread throughout the USA by not treating it like any other infectious disease, such as TB, syphilis, or gonorrhea which had to be reported to the Health Department so that the patient and their contacts could be treated. Because of the connection to the homosexual community, the testing in the beginning was ANONYMOUS! This was outrageous to those in the lab field.

I believe that, like Esther, President Trump was chosen for such a time as this and I believe that he will stand in the gap for the rest of America. The most important thing we can do is disavow the need to have a vaccine before we can let people go back to work. Even after 40 years, there is still no vaccine for HIV. People think there is a vaccine for the flu, but it is not a true vaccine because it does not keep people from getting it the next year or even the same year. The common cold is the same way. There are so many strains there will never be a vaccine that will protect someone from getting another cold in the way that the small pox vaccine protects us from small pox.

i knoe- it’s such a crap-shoot going to the stores these days- Now i gotta sit for several days wondering if I’m gonna get it or not- like waiting for a cancer test result to come back lol- a little nerve wracking- We’re probably fine- our town doesn’t have many cases yet- but those are known cases, who knows how m any have it and don’t know it-

Well, as for the eyes- there was something we called ‘the crud’ going around awhile back- stomach ache, chills, runny nose, itching eyes, slight fever, nausea, slight headache- My family all got it- wasn’t super bad, but annoying- I doubt it was the virus as it was several weeks ago and we didnt’ have any known cases around us then- and we had no breathing problems-

Hope you don’t have it, but just know there is the usual flu going around too- just keep an eye on breathing and fever- get to docs right away if temp goes up high or have hard time catching breath for sure but you of course know this- God Bless- -

They can put directional arrows on the floor, like they do at IKEA.

In my grocery store they put down arrows to direct one way traffic down the isles and the store workers bark at you if you are going the wrong way. They say " Wrong way, you have to learn the rules!" What's next grocery store traffic tickets?

no such luck in our area- unfortunately- but yeah- from here on out- what we’re gonna do i think is buy milk, creamers, perhaps deli meats from convenience store/gas stations in the smaller towns- much less chance of virus I think- (We’re talking really small towns- )

I did stock up on some pasta roni yesterday with the parmesian cheese- had a box last week and it was surprisingly good- so we’re good for q number of meals if we have to resort to boxed meals- i seriously doubt i’m gonna go back to walmart till things calm down- can’t get what we want there anyways-

We do have a BJ’s about hour away- but it is in a bigger city area and likely same problem there-

Gonna have to get creative finding food when it comes ot restocking i guess-
