In its quest to be more lethal than America’s adversaries, the Marine Corps is rolling out a new grenade launcher.

The M320A1 has a range of 150 meters on a single target, which might be a window, and a 350-meter maximum range on an area target, according to The Washington Times.

The new grenade launcher can be used by itself or mounted onto another weapon, such as the M27 rifle.

Uhhhh, they did upgrade the ammo. The 203 can’t fire it.

It appears to use iron sights. Could a shooter really put it through a window consistently at 150 meters as the article suggests?

Remember all the rag head jihadis who only seemed capable of using a grenade launcher? Not a rifle among them but a half dozen grenade launchers. Not a pair of boots among them either, but bare feet and “dresses”.

It’s rated to 150 yards for a point target, in excess of 350 for an area target and out to 2200 when firing the Pike missile from it.

A few years from now some S.W.A.T. rookie will be explaining to his Captain, “I swear I didn’t mean to blow up the house, I thought it was the tear gas launcher”.

I am of the opinion that the greater improvement would be to add a spin/rotation to the grenade. That would stabalize the round in flight and increase accuracy.

Reviews from Army troops once the teething problems were resolved seem to indicate yes. Also, there are videos on YouTube of troops doing it. And of course, Larry Vickers blooping the grenades down range:

The HK can also accept a variety of laser, red dot, etc., sights, IIRC.

With care, the old M-79 could also be used as a mini-mortar....not sure about this new one.

Ummm... the M203 and M79 are rifled and do spin the projectile going down range. The M79’s rifling is R.H., six lands, twist is 1 in 48 inches, for example. Pretty sure the 320 is rifled as well.

If the rounds didn’t spin, they couldn’t have a minimum arming distance as the electronics to do that didn’t exist until recently.

Agreed. The 203 was decent, slow but a good Gunner could keep several rounds in the air/on target from the prone.

I believe the army has been using an improved version if not the 320 for decades now.

Last time I used a M203 40mm GL was around 2000.

It’s about time. Remember the old accurate M-79? Anybody that grew up shooting a Daisy BB gun at long range became an expert with the M-79. Me included.

LOL!

When I was on active duty, I used to joke that if the Marine Corps could just get current technology equipment, it would experience at 25 year leap forward in its capabilities.

With this new grenade launcher, it is down to just a decade behind. I’m glad to see things are improving.

Semper Fi !
