"The scientists calculated that it would take about 5 times 10^54 joules of energy to create such a cavity. (For perspective, humanity's total global energy consumption each year is about 6 times 10^20 joules.)"

To put it into the ordinary layman's perspective.

==========================================================================

So what they are really trying to say is that this explosion created orders of magnitude more global warming than anything we ever could do.

How dare it!

Someone better get little miss thunberg in front of the u.n. to demand the universe refrain from ever doing that again!

1 kiloton is equal to 4.184 TJ (tera joule or 10E+12 joules)

Son in comparison

The Little Boy atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima exploded with an energy of about 15 kilotons of TNT (63 TJ), and the Fat Man atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki exploded with an energy of about 20 kilotons of TNT (84 TJ).

No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There’s always a boom tomorrow. What? Look, somebody’s got to have some damn perspective around here. Boom, sooner or later... boom!

Isn't there anything we could do about that?

Yes! Stop using oil. Believe in global warming! Tax ourselves into slavery! The end is nigh unless we do something!

That explosion in space was Hitler being told that Trump will win in 2020.

“Wait til the sun explodes!”

Actually it will go Red Giant as its hydrogen runs out and will consume the near planets, perhaps earth also. Mercury and Venus for sure will be gone and perhaps earth. It will then become a white dwarf star for many years and no big explosion. If the sun were of greater mass it could go Nova in a great explosion. It does not have the mass. Our sun will die a very quiet death. Do not worry. This a few billions of years in the future. Man will no longer exist when this happens. I ponder what man will have become before this happens. If history of the planet is correct, man will be just a curious footnote in the history of earth.

So what you’re saying is that this explosion is 8 X 10^40 Hiroshima bombs. Yeah, that really helps to put it into everyday perspective.
