The top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee issued a sharp rebuke of President Donald Trump Thursday, slamming the administration's plan to divert $3.83 billion in Pentagon funding to border wall construction as unconstitutional and pledging to take action after lawmakers were notified of the move by the Department of Defense.
Rep. Mac Thornberry, a Texas Republican who is the ranking member of the House committee and has announced he will not run for reelection this year, did not mention Trump by name but voiced strong opposition to the diverting of money from various Pentagon accounts for border wall construction, asserting the move is "contrary to Congress's constitutional authority." "The re-programming announced today is contrary to Congress's constitutional authority, and I believe that it requires Congress to take action. I will be working with my colleagues to determine the appropriate steps to take," he said in a statement responding to the Defense Department's announcement.

Isn't defending America's borders the PRIMARY responsibility of our military and of defense spending?
You and the GOP Congress are fine with using our tax dollars to patrol the Syrian border and the Jordanian border. Why complain about defense money for AMERICA's BORDERS? Is "America LAST" your philosophy?
This guy deserves a (respectful) phone call, imo. (202) 225-3706
Correction, that guy needs to be primaried.
The guy is wrong. Already been decided.
I missed the line about him not standing for re-election. No wonder he’s so ‘brave’.
“Correction, that guy needs to be primaried.”
Article says he’s not running for reelection. That’s fine, but he wants to do damage in the meantime, by fighting Trump’s wall funding. Any GOP who goes along with him deserves primarying, you’re right about that.
“Already been decided.”
He’s going to try to get it voted down by the Congress. Dems - and a lot of Republicans - will join him, you watch.

When someone puts up a wall around their property, is it generally just
because it looks nice, or is it related to making the place safer, less open to
interlopers?
Where to we find these weak sisters?
He's got more good years as a fighter for our side.
He's a cheese-eating surrender monkey who didn't vote for the Granny Wine Box impeachment articles only because he knew it would have been the death of the Republican Party.
Using defense funds to defend the border.
We are going to do what we are going to do. You are going to watch it happen.
“Where to we find these weak sisters?”
That’s your modern Republican PArty. It’s why I didn’t vote for George Bush for reelection, or for McCain, or for Romney. The modern GOP leaves me cold. It’s a bunch of water carriers for billionaire donors. They sneer at their own base. Trump is different, but he’ll be gone by 2024 at the latest, then it’s back to the elitist Bushism as usual.
Of course, result is we’ll have no more Republican presidents.
He probably has no qualms about spending $3 billion to defend Iraq and Aghanistan borders
He’s not running again.
“He probably has no qualms about spending $3 billion to defend Iraq and Aghanistan borders
Damn straight he doesn’t. America comes last for most of our political elites, of both parties. It’s why Trump is hated by most of our political elites of both parties.
And it’s why I didn’t vote for Bush (in 2004), or McCain (in 2008), or Romney (in 2012). They’re all front men for billionaire open-borders cheap-labor-express donors.
It seems like a lot of the Republicans who have left Congress in the last couple of years or are about to leave Congress this year held leadership positions.
There was no way in hell I was going to vote for the likes
of McCain, EVER!!!!
As for the Mitthead, I knew he was another weak sister,
but I didn't realize he was as bad as he is now.
I have about the same reaction to these folks you do,
believe me.
I voted for Bush the first time - in 2000. Then he invaded Iraq and opened our border. That was it for me.
Wasn’t this something the Supreme Court sided with PDJT on?
