And anyway, how do you put a price on it? I guarantee, no number will be enough. And do you multiply it by 8000? Or divide by 8000?

What is not being said is that blacks have been receiving reparations in the form of tax subsidies in the amount of about twice their income for social spending.

The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1963 -almost 60 years ago.
I propose a $50,000 lump sum payment with the proviso that any welfare or public assistance money granted to each individual since 1963 be deducted from the total as they have already received just compensation
Think that would be fair because these people were direct victims who suffered one of one of the most unfair and shameful chapters in American history.
FWIW, the youngest person who actually suffered damages as an adult due to official sanctioned segregation and discrimination under Jim Crow would be pushing 80 today.
Even if you lowered the threshold to 18, the age would be 75
Kind of puts things into perspective
Perhaps some descendants of those enslaved could someday prove where their ancestors were taken from through DNA, but in the meantime the Turks should be paying reparations to the countries from which the slaves were taken--Greece, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, etc. (plus nations whose citizens were captured on the high seas and enslaved).
They were probably being used for construction of Georgetown University at that time. When the construction was done they no longer needed them and sold them. My guess at what happened.
Looks like we made it the American way; on our own.
Because of the overwhelming positive comments on NYT articles I often wonder if they pay people to write comments or if there's a group out there that does it to support every liberal issue.
Earlier Georgetown graduates DIED for the freaking ancestors of these annoying incompetent whiners. They died for their presumed black ancestors over matters of Principle. Are any of these reparation pimps going to PAY BACK the generations of families whose sons gave their lives, and the families left destitute of their holdings and beginnings, for generations afterwards? Could they ever match the amount of money that would entail? Answer is No, they could not, and more importantly they think they are OWED something. This is chicken crap from life career con artist fraudsters.
These Georgetown graduates were themselves descendants of British sentenced and contracted indentured servants. Many criminally sentenced because of a “crime” AND the fact of the affiliation of their religion (that is Roman Catholic- but then the idiots who want reparation have zero knowledge of this— except as leverage to squeeze money so they can continue their scam, and selective memory, from a Catholic founded University with high scholastic achievement and standards).
The FACT is the few remaining American history classes who teach very little of the truth, present indentured servitude as a benign paternalistic system where colonial immigrants spent a few years working off their passage and went on to better things. This is Not so—far from the truth.
and one thing more -How did the slaves get to America?? The were first captured by African (Kenyan) tribes who sold them at the ports to slave merchants. Then shipped to ports in southern North America, Central and South America.
If anyone is interested in reparations they should not forget the ones who captured them in the first place. They were native African tribes, mostly Kenyan, and all Muslim, whose income was solely the sale of slaves. Their greatest trade in slaves was not to the Americas though, but in Northern Africa to the Arab world. So perhaps the donations Georgetown blacks seek might best begin in Kenya. But wait, isn’t that Muslim tribe boasting that Obama’s father is one of them?? Oh! just forget it!!
Last year the students voted to add $27.20 to each tuition bill, to fund some kind of "reparations.” Its really the ultimate in virtue signaling. approx. 25% of those who voted are already gone, having passed on the cost of their sanctimony to newly arrived students (ie. parents). The University Administration then decided they would not go that route, but rather create a roughly equivalent amount of money ($400K) and create some kind of "reparations fund."
You are correct they should have never put their name to it. No amount of $$ offered will ever be enough. But I know Georgetown people and how they think. They exist firmly in the DC political and woke bubble. There is no one with the courage to resist this.
