It kills me when people say to rack a pump shotgun to scare the bad guys.
The chamber should already be loaded and you click off the safety and shoot the perp!
Warnings are for rattlesnakes. Bad guys advancing are for graveyards. You have to win, theres no other choice. The door lock was the warning. Advance further the brakes are off.
I do keep my pump with an empty chamber as a double safety precaution. But I do agree, having to rack a round is a minus not a plus. Its not my primary home defense weapon.
Agree, stupid advice.
My daughter was living alone in Ft Carson when her husband was deployed to Iraq.
Kitchen living rooms were downstairs.
Bedrooms upstairs
to go upstairs you had to go up some steps and themn go around a corner.
I bought her a defensive shotgun.
12 guage..would hold 7 rounds.
I advised her if some one tried to break in she should retreat up the steps, retrieve the shotgun...jack a round into the shotgun if any one tried to go upstairs
My feeling is if I after someone and I cannot see them but I hear them jack a round into a shotgun...I ain’t sticking around
What you said. Dont give away your position. Just shoot (if you have to)
Ok maybe, but a shotgun might be considered a little different.
If you have the drop on the perp racking the chamber sends a STRONG message and avoids the asinine legal complications mentioned about firing a warning shot. LEO rumor has it that it is Powerful deterrent.
Now that I agree with which is why I like a revolver by my bed
No confusion for me
That is how I keep my shotgun - loaded.
However, the other day I saw a video where the guy was saying that most shotguns (my one for defense is a pump) don’t have the safety features that most pistols have if it is dropped, and the shotgun might fire. So he recommends not keeping a shell in the chamber.
But - he also showed that the shell can be racked fairly quietly.
I need to look into that more.
