Republican Congressman Doug Collins announced Wednesday a bid for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, teeing up a showdown with fellow GOP Senator Kelly Loeffler in the state's November special election.
Collins, a staunch ally of President Trump, confirmed the Senate run in an interview with "Fox and Friends" and on Twitter, where he said he had for months "given serious deliberation to the role I should serve that would best benefit GA, the country and @realDonaldTrump."
The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee and a four-term congressman, Collins has emerged as one of the most vocal opponents of the ongoing impeachment efforts against Mr. Trump and was named by the White House as a member of a GOP congressional delegation designed to advocate for the president and punch back against the Democrats' charges against him.
Both of Georgia's seats in the U.S. Senate will be on the ballot come November, and Democrats are eyeing the state for a possible upset as they seek to take control of the upper chamber.
Under current law, Loeffler will face a jungle primary in November, meaning she and every other candidate, both Republican and Democrat, seeking the seat would face off on the same ballot. If no one receives 50% of the vote, a runoff would be held in January.

Collins’ House seat is solid Republican even if he doesn’t run, and will not be lost barring a MAJOR upset.
The 9th district of Georgia voted for Trump by 59 points over Hillary
For the record.
Even in a jungle we arent losing that seat.
Love this guy like a brother, but he really needs to get the marbles out of his mouth and complete a sentence once in a while.
I don’t like it that Collins is running against an incumbent due to personal pique because he thought the nomination should have been his by default. We have way too much of that elitist it’s-all-about-me attitude in DC. Mitt Romney is a case in point. Being a team player matters in some circumstances. This is one such circumstance.
We need house seats. Stay where you are Doug.
I do believe the seat will be up again in 2022. We could lose and get a 2nd chance. I say go full pedal to the metal with Collins. I’ll let the primary voter decide and give a few bucks if it’s Collins.
We have two Georgia Senatorial seats up in November.
David Perdue has the southern part of the state locked because of family relations.
“Coathanger” Loeffler is laying low so she does not stick out, but has to run for re-election in two years. She has money, but not brains.
She supports planned parenthood.
Loeffler donated $750,000 during the 2012 presidential election to Romney super PAC Restore Our Future. The financial executive has also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to former Speaker Ryans political campaigns and PACs.
Loeffler is the co-owner and co-chairman of the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA) Atlanta Dream.
After the Trump administration announced plans in 2018 to cut family planning funding from abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood, WNBA President Lisa Borders said that she and the league stands with Planned Parenthood.
Loefflers Atlanta Dream has also pushed back on some socially conservative policies in Georgia.
He represents the reddest of the red districts. No chance it goes blue.
BS. If Republicans lost this reddest of red House seats, they would lose 200 other house seats. It won’t happen, not the slightest chance.

Interesting. Thanks. F&F tried to pry a reason for this “Senate run” out of him, Collins avoided answer - was unwilling to give a coherent response.....
