Republican Congressman Doug Collins announced Wednesday a bid for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, teeing up a showdown with fellow GOP Senator Kelly Loeffler in the state's November special election.
Collins, a staunch ally of President Trump, confirmed the Senate run in an interview with "Fox and Friends" and on Twitter, where he said he had for months "given serious deliberation to the role I should serve that would best benefit GA, the country and @realDonaldTrump."
The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee and a four-term congressman, Collins has emerged as one of the most vocal opponents of the ongoing impeachment efforts against Mr. Trump and was named by the White House as a member of a GOP congressional delegation designed to advocate for the president and punch back against the Democrats' charges against him.
Both of Georgia's seats in the U.S. Senate will be on the ballot come November, and Democrats are eyeing the state for a possible upset as they seek to take control of the upper chamber.
Under current law, Loeffler will face a jungle primary in November, meaning she and every other candidate, both Republican and Democrat, seeking the seat would face off on the same ballot. If no one receives 50% of the vote, a runoff would be held in January.

Good....I like the guy. He spoke up for the President and against the Dems...and he did it well.
can he win..
If it’s cheaper to run her Collins should give it up. Too late. I could cost him his House seat but one of 435 isn’t too bad. I’m looking for a challenge to tills.
I like him, but Im not sure I like this move. It may also be a bad omen for GOP hopes in the House, because he stands to take over as Judiciary Committee chairman and he may be doing this because he doesnt think the Republicans will win control of the House.
Do not like jungle primaries with more than one R running.
Erickson said yesterday gas repub speaker of the house ralston was working with the dems to sabotage kemps senate pick. Hes helping the dims.
After his showing in the hearings, I don’t see how he doesn’t win.
Your supposition is off the mark. Collins is doing this because he is ticked that the governor nominated the current senator to fill the seat instead of him. I heard this today on radio (the execrable Hugh Hewitt’s show but there isn’t anything else worth listening to on my morning drive). The current senator is only a GOP donor. Collins has several terms in the House. He is ticked at the governor.
1. She's a successful woman who can appeal to the biggest swing voting group in the U.S. (suburban women).
2. She's independently wealthy, so she can finance her own campaign.
I love Doug Collins, but I'm not sure he can win a statewide election in a state where a human train wreck like the Black Grimace can nearly win a governor's race.
How goes the GA House sabotage a U.S. Senator?
So has the current senator.
But, but, but........Stacy Abrams might run and Collins won’t stand a chance......../s
It is quite possible we’ll lose his house seat, and also lose the senate seat; first because the jungle primary will pick a democrat and one of the two republicans, and if it is not collins, he will be upset and probably get his supporters to sit out the race.

So.... if someone (Collins) doesnt bow down and support the GOPes pick theyre helping the Dems? Collins is an honorable American patriot and can be depended upon to be true to his stated values.
If Loeffler wins the primary and gets elected to a six year term, IMHO her inner Romney (that she is very carefully hiding for now) will emerge.
P.S., I have no idea what the GA Speaker of the House has to do with this.
Remember, we need about 17 flips to get the house back.
Shes not as solid ideologically as he is. Shes trying to appear that way now...pivoting as they say
I dont think conservative women are wooed by female candidates
And democrat leaning women are not going to support anything GOPe
But I could be wrong
There is a push by the state legislature to change the primary rules to two primaries. One Democrat and one Republican.
