Sounds like they're trying to make a deal.
We'll remove the "Assault weapons" proposition if you'll go along with Red Flag laws, limited number of weapons you can buy laws, Universal background check laws... on and on and on.

Do you think our forefathers and military who veterans defended our country’s freedom would in their wildest imagination think the state of Virginia would end up in such a “state”?

SB16 was a headfake. The real bill is HB961 and it is several magnitudes worse than SB16. Northam has already stated that HB961 is the bill that he wants passed.
It will be touted by the media as a “fair compromise” because it contains a “grandfather clause” in reality, that “grandfather clause” requires the purchase of a permit, registration by serial number, and then you can only possess it at your house, at a shooting range, or while hunting.

Wow! An article that refers to magazines instead of clips; and ammunition instead of boo-lits. None of these morons can explain why a bayonet lug on a rifle makes it an assault rifle. BTW, when is the last time ANYONE has seen an AR with a bayonette attached?

I saw one in 91. Bayonet training in basic. It was fun, I literally tried to break my rifle doing buttstrokes. That’s hitting with the rear of the stock .. the m-16 held up great and gave me great confidence in it’s durability.

Don’t stop fighting or they going to take half of your cake and come back for the rest later.

All the paintballing “threepers” and “oath breakers” can go back to running around the woods with their paintball guns!

"that grandfather clause requires the purchase of a permit, registration by serial number, and then you can only possess it at your house, at a shooting range, or while hunting"
My counter-offer to such a proposal would be that a holder of the proposed permit is also entitled to possess and utilize fully automatic firearms under the same restrictions, and that all costs of permitting and administration of this non-effectual bureaucratic monstrosity be "at cost" and auditable to all outside observers.
In addition, any federal stamp fees associated with such a scheme would be directly subtracted from net state taxes that are due in the Spring.

Wouldn’t it be hysterical if they flubbed the wording of the bill and ended up mandating a minimum purchase of one gun a month instead of a maximum?
I would LOL for days.
