Virginia’s Giddy Gun Controllers: Will next Monday’s big protests in Richmond come too late?
American Spectator ^ | January 13, 2020 | Jed Babbin

Calling the state legislature into session last Wednesday, Gov. Ralph Northam could not have been more elated. His Democrats have taken over the state legislature and are giddily preparing to exercise every ounce of their new-found powers.

Northam’s expansive legislative agenda includes: passage of the long-dead Equal Rights Amendment (the deadline for ratification expired in 1982); decriminalization of marijuana; big spending on “save the planet” environmental nonsense; further liberalization of abortion laws; and, of course, far-reaching strict gun controls.

Gov. Ralph "Jolson" Northam is elated. Democrats have taken over the state legislature.
Dems are giddily preparing to exercise every ounce of their new-found powers.

Northam hopes to memorably cap his career. He has authorized VA Democrats to join the DNC lawsuit,
to acquire exclusive rights from Iran to use "Death to America" in Dem campaign ads.

I would agree, except there’s only a two-Senator advantage to the dems. We only need to turn two.

What do pedophiles, serial killers, rolling boulders, and the power drunk Left have in common?

They'll keep going until they're stopped, and they don't pay attention to protests, votes, or laws.

Erections have consequences.

So do elections.

Fund the 2nd amendment sanctuary mpovement in Virginiac.

The left has established law that allows sanctuary cities
and states against federal law, so now is the time to establishing sanctuary cities for support of federal law in relation to the 2nd amendment.

This article posits the Dem anti gun initiatives as a done deal.

It is not. Its not over and never will be.

Fight or allow Virginia to become the bedroom state of Washington DC and its swamp.

FIGHT!

The desire for tyranny by the Democrats in Virginia (and anywhere they’re in power)... won’t change. But the declaration of 2nd Amendment “sanctuary” status by resistant counties, will certainly complicate the enforcement process. There is precedent in the “sanctuary” cities refusing to enforce federal laws.

The challenge to present to Gov Northam and his tribe of “Blue” despots: are you willing to declare WAR on your own citizens, inflict government “gun violence” on them, with whatever blood and carnage it may entail... as to prevent “gun violence?”

In 1863, western counties of Virginia loyal to the union seceded from the state to form the new state West Virginia... maybe it’s time for 1863 part two? It’d be a trip if the government of West Virginia voted to welcome the annexing of the “sanctuary” counties to their state!

That might be interesting to watch!

That would be interesting. My sister lives in VA and they are close to retirement. They are moving to Indiana.

VA is a textbook example of the frogs slowly boiling metaphor. This day has been coming for the last 15 years. The lesson is that all 2A supporters must view every Democrat as a dire threat every election. They don’t run on gun control but rather spring it on you after it’s too late.

Unlike the GOP when the rats get the opportunity they they seize it. They are working through their laundry list while they have the power. They know if they lose power it’s always very difficult to undue what they’ve done

Absolutely.

And wait to see what they have in store for us AFTER they get the guns.

Unfortunately, radicals are in power in Virginia and they are swinging the wrecking ball. Digging out of this last election coup and current legislative morass will take years. It will require kicking the communist out of power in the election booth and suing the pants off them in the courts. Has anyone paid attention to the effect Virginia redistricting has had on turning the state blue? What the communist can’t accomplish by reasonable discourse with the voters, they accomplish through liberal courts who push their agenda. That’s why they are so angry with POTUS turning the Fed. Appeal Cts. conservative.

Probably should’ve gotten out and voted instead if staying home and thinking “this is Virginia, it’ll never happen here.”

The NRA and like can do all the protests they want it is not going to make a difference.

This is tactically inaccurate. The first effect is to mobilize the protesters themselves, so that they see how many others agree with them. They meet each other and gain an education on how others besides themselves came to their views on the issue. This is a critical weapon when all return home to recruit more pro-gun activists.

There's more. The second effect is that the attention from the protest generates more importance and elbow room in the political spectrum and gathers new converts and new kinds of support, in the short term and especially in the long term.

When Roe vs. Wade was proclaimed by fiat by a corrupt Supreme Court in defiance of the Constitution--in order to stay hip with the Promiscuity Revolution--the smart money said the die was cast, and the entire culture would embrace abortion forever. This has not occurred. Support for baby-killing in America has been declining.

One crucial way the pro-life movement gained power in the current political climate could not have been predicted, but grew from the logic the pro-life position shared with other conservative movements, namely Constitutional originalists. The common ground has been the common-law legal tradition and the religious presumption build into the American Founding of the sacredness of life. As a consequence, when a group of originalist lawyers formed the Federalist Society, it attracted over time a large number of Catholic lawyers. Catholics are by no means the only pro-lifers, but their extra focus on the issue helped define the selection of judges the Federalist Society came to endorse.

President Trump, a convert to the pro-life position, has nominated--please correct me if I am wrong--only judges endorsed by the Federalist Society, all of whom are pro-life. (Also, most of his visible staff and advisors seem to include a large proportion of pro-life Catholics.) The President has also become a potent spokesman for the pro-life cause and thereby enhanced it as a logical and necessary position for any conservative and any tradition-minded voter--including blacks and Hispanics who would otherwise might not have supported a Republican.

You see my point. Any protest in any environment, including gun owners in gentrifying, deep-state, northern Va., can create a ripple that could unite with others from unpredictable sources to form a tidal wave.

Let them pass all the anti-gun laws they want. Texas can pass a law outlawing the sale to any VA business, corporation or franchise of any product or raw material.

Hard on the good people of VA, but it certainly get the pols attention. Actions have consequences; as well as unintended consequences of opposite and equal reaction. Call it my corollary to Newton’s Third Law of Motion.
