Pro-Iran militia have stormed the US embassy in Baghdad for a second day, with US marines firing tear gas on the militants this morning following demands for American blood in retaliation for airstrikes on Iraq.
Yesterday thousands of demonstrators - many of them Iran-backed militants - rushed through the heavily fortified Green Zone after US air strikes killed 25 members of the Iran-backed Kataeb Hezbollah in air strikes Sunday night.
One furious militant said: 'God willing if this fire reaches inside the embassy, we will not spare a single employee.'
The pro-Iran demonstrators finally ended their siege today after commanders of the Popular Mobilization Force (PMF), of which Kataeb Hezbollah is a member, asked its supporters to stand down. 'You delivered your message,' it said in a statement.
President Donald Trump's reinforcements were engaged earlier when tear gas was fired to disperse those who had spent the night outside the main gates. Several ambulances arrived to ferry those stricken by the gas.
Yesterday's riot, which included smashing through the embassy's security area, setting fires around the complex and hurling rocks, ended in a camp being set up outside the consulate.
Some 50 tents, portable toilets and cooking pots were shipped in as hundreds of the furious mob prepared a sit-in at the embassy's gates, demanding that the US withdraw from Iraq.
This morning, the crowds drew closer to the single wall separating them and the larger diplomatic compound, setting US flags on fire and eventually the wall of the compound itself.

We have no good business there. None.
Hang tough Devil Dogs. Help is on the way.
EXCELLENT pics and videos at the link.
It was almost a Benghazi.
F—k that tear gas and rubber bullet bullshit pattycake game.
Shoot to kill.
“Shoot to kill.”
Why?
We’ll be out in a few days with no casualties.
The ongoing legacy of Obama and Kerry. How much were they paid by Iran and where is the money hidden?
Of course, once we have a stable and safe compound, we should evac everyone.

Yes stabilize then leave.
But part of the stabilize is shoot to kill.
Start with the yammering bigmouth in the video.
Give ‘em lead, not gas.
Need to send a cruise missile over to Iran and hit the ayatollahs house. Give him a message that he needs to stop screwing around creating havoc in the world
Just shoot the little bastards.
Oh really ?
Where is the Iraqi army that we paid to rebuild?
“Well be out in a few days with no casualties.”
Out? I doubt it. But thanks for posting the article. Always good pictures at the DM.
“Where is the Iraqi army that we paid to rebuild?”
They are not politically reliable and some participated in the “protests” and vandalism of the compound.
Let that be a lesson to us. Again.
GTFO and never, ever go back.
Also, the Iraqi government is not the virtually non-existent government of Libya, nor the revolutionary and violently anti-American government of Iran circa 1979.
I'm not keen on cutting and running from U.S. territory just because of some terrorists. Unlike the woefully understrength guys in Tripoli, those Marines are defending a much stronger complex, with far more troops, and with ample air support available quickly if truly needed. You leave the country if Iran actually crosses the border in force, not before.
Roger that !
worst part about embassies is the locals have responsibility for external security. No one is talking about the collapse of Iraq Security outside.
You make good points.
Why?
To instill fear in the hearts of our enemies. Thats why.

“Also, the Iraqi government is not the virtually non-existent government of Libya, nor the revolutionary and violently anti-American government of Iran circa 1979.”
True.
In this case the government forces are complicit. It’s very nearly the revolutionary government of Iran circa 1979.
And that means we cannot rely on the government of Iraq to protect the embassy like we can nearly 200 other governments in the world.
Of course we should leave.
