WTH?!
Last I knew all three cities were depopulating.
If they say it will cost $100 billion be assured it will cost twenty times that.
Can you say “Boon Doggle?”
highly profitable for the polticans skiming off the kick backs from contractors
No doubt. Just look at what a power house money maker amtrak i.................... Oh.
Sounds cool. But the technology is yet to be proven reliable or safe or durable. My off the cuff reaction is that it will end up costing well north of $40 billion to build out, and won’t make anywhere close to $30 billion in profits over the first 25 years.
Still, would be cool to see them build something like this as a pilot, and then scale it. But heck if it is all private money and private property who am I to complain?
No doubt it would be highly profitable for the people peddling it.
It would be highly profitable, for those building it and servicing it.
Fracking would make the ground beneath our feet unstable they say. It could trigger sinkholes and earthquakes they say. But putting 100’s of miles of tubes under that very same ground, plus the ventilation and electrical systems and other logistics needed will save the planet. More wasteful feel good-ism from the tree huggers and trainbrains.
Fasten your seatbelts!
Sounds great. At 500 mph, you could watch the Bears lose at noon, catch a Cleveland Browns loss at 4pm and then see Pittsburgduhhh lose the Sunday night game.
They should get in touch with Elon Musk and The Boring Company. Check out YouTube interviews about them. Whereas existing tunnel boring companies do the job at a cost between $100 million to $500 million a mile, Elon says his company can do the job between $3 million to $10 million a mile. Existing government projects are wasteful and use century old technology. The Boring Company currently has a tunnel contract near Los Angeles. Not a hyper loop, but the tech can be scaled up to a hyper loop between cities.
The wrecks would be spectacular
Imagine that! The company whose technology it is presents a study stating that we should invest beaucoup billions in their idea.
Also, notice that they're still "developing" the technology, yet they can already predict what it will cost, and all the pluses and minuses. Geniuses, I say!
If you believe that, I have a hyperloop to sell you.
BS! They always say that, but taxpayers are left with the payments for ever!!!
It really sounds too much like the California bullet rail that was supposed to be a huge moneymaker and now sounds like it will never be completed.
Here’s what they should do - build a hyperloop connecting Buffalo, Erie and Pittsburgh first. If it is successful and proves to be an economic boon, then build Phase 2, connecting the first loop to the Pittsburgh-Cleveland-Chicago hyperloop.
First prove the technology works on a smaller scale, then you can build the bigger, costlier one.
