I’d much rather go buy a whole box of plastic grocery bags and bring my own, then dispose of them.
We finally got out of the useless habit of recycling. The city changed their trash p9licy of charging for trash bags and not for recycling.
But, I steadfastly refused to ever wash my garbage like empty cans.
Curbside recycling is an absolute waste of time and resources. It’s nice to see that many of my neighbors have taken my lead.
My reusable bags are made in Madagascar by cage free children and flown in by private jets used by celebrities and politicians.
And remember when they picked up our old newspapers, nicely bundled, AND PAID US for them.
I'd love to do without plastics, too.
Paper bags worked for us back then. Burning worked until we added plastics to the mix.
That’s like all the sanctimonious hotels with their little signs about saving the environment by not washing towels daily.
I’m pushing 75 hotel nights this year. On the rare occasions I stay multiple nights in the same place, If I’m paying over $100 per night to sleep and shower, darn right I want a fresh towel.
I normally double-bag the used litter bags. Odds that any holes are in the same spot are less that way. Of course the obviously holey ones don't get used for that purpose but still make an acceptable waste can liner. ;-)

I sew mine too. Use upholstery fabric so they stand up straight at the check out.
First ones were just regular cloth. I was amazed at how much stuff they would hold until one day coming into my house with a bag full of can, it slid down my arm and put a major hole in my wall!
Yep. We can’t even burn leaves anymore. But the fire Marshall did tell us that if we had small limbs and such, we could break them up and use them in our fire pit.
But at about a penny a piece I do not think the grocers save much by making you bring the bag.
Add them up. Ever hear of pennies doing that? Look how many bags they’d stock.
It’s not just bags. It’s the expense of electricity, soap, machinery wear, etc, to do all these things that the NAZIs have declared evil for ecology (to use a pre-1990 term).
Sure pennies add up, but if we can get them for about a penny they do not even pay that, while it likely takes more time/labor to deal with bags that customers bring than filling their own. The point is that I see no real significant savings to stores by using the latter (otherwise they would have likely been charging for them). EXCEPT that there is money to be made in selling a reusable bag,

Not very consistent, seeing that a practice that was the mode of transmission in 93% of new HIV cases among youth aged 13 to 24, and accounted for 82% of diagnoses among males and 70% of all new HIV diagnoses, and 2 out of every 3 diagnoses in the United States (despite only representing approximately 4% of the male population), and (historically) has resulted in a greatly increased incidence of other infectious diseases and premature death, is not discouraged, but protected and promoted. And with treatment and attempts at protection being much at taxpayer expense (and which response to this "misuse of an instrument" stands in contrast to the response to the misuse of firearms).
