I watched a bunch of people at the store using additional plastic bags for liners for their reusable bags. I asked one of them and they said their are buying those super thin bags to get their reusable bags clean. Most of the reusable bags aren’t washable apparently.
When I was a kid, in the 50’s and 60’s, we wrapped our garbage in newspaper, then placed it in brown paper grocery bags. When we had to empty the trash can, we dumped it in the burn barrel and burned it. The trash collector picked up the “clinkers” from our coal burning furnace, and any debris that wouldn’t burn in our burn barrel. Everyone in the neighborhood had a burn barrel. I’ve always hated plastic (though there are many life saving medical supplies made from it; I give them an exception). I wonder how much harm the manufacturer and use of all this plastic does. I’m no eco-nut, and I think the climate crisis is a total fraud, but except for medical or scientific needs, I would love to do without most plastics. We all managed to get along without most of it. (Well, ok..a little nylon can’t be all bad).
And bring back burn barrels! They can’t POSSIBLY be worse than landfills leaking into ground water.
HEB and Walmart regular plastic bags are so thin at least one tears open dumping your stuff before getting it home. I go through them and most end up being thrown out. Those with small holes are used as trash liners and the very few with no holes are used for scooping the litter box.
Give reusable bags a few years and we’ll have headlines banning them because too many don’t wash them and they are spreading deadly diseases.

Definitely some kind of disconnect there, isn’t there? I imagine they actually feel like they’re doing their part to “save the planet”. SMH
In a free market, a price is based on a summation of all the various forms of energy consumed to produce something, mostly indirectly. Businesses try hard to use less energy than their competitors to be rewarded with a higher profit. Free enterprise is automatically a race to be the greenest. If new product B costs more than old product A, it's academic to trace where it is generating more pollution: just follow the money.
A price anywhere below the total cost of energy is a financial short circuit which ends in an economic meltdown. Socialism is always sold to the voters by pricing expensive things far below the total cost of energy. It's why socialist systems always collapse fairly quickly. Socialism is nothing more than a political perpetual motion machine, in violation of the first and second laws of thermodynamics.

Yes. Then recycle the bags to dispose of kitty litter. Our friends save theirs for us — their bags; not their kitty litter. :)

I recycle nearly all my plastic bags. Wait’ll they see the solutions people come up with for pet poop disposal. Greta etal won’t like it I’m sure.

The ONLY way to make a cloth bag (with ground beef blood-staining) as clean as a new plastic bag right “off the roll” is to use an AUTOCLAVE ...

I normally use warm water and Woolite. Works for me!
Living in a rural area makes paper grocery bags a total waste for me-especially since I put a small ice chest with Blue Ice in it in my 4x4 to put my meat and dairy products in anyway for the drive home-and those re-usable cloth bags are never really clean unless they are washed with bleach-so I have my groceries put in the plastic bags-they are thin, but I recycle them by using them as trashcan liners and to scoop out/empty the cats’ litter boxes-those two chores recycle a week’s worth of plastic bags. The cloth bags I take to the dollar store, hardware store, etc to put cosmetics, tools, clothing items, duct tape, etc in...
If you are using those cloth bags to carry meat and veggies, they are not really clean unless you add bleach to your warm soapy water-then air dry them in the sunshine to de-germ them-but unless they are made of canvas, they will disintegrate...
Shoprite switched to shallow flimsy paper bags at least 10 years ago. The plastic bags aren’t good either.
Trader Joe’s has great bags and they double them.
Cloth bags can be tossed into the washer with soap and bleach. Why is that not better than plastic?

If the total cost of the hot water, soap, bleach, electricity, machine wear and tear, labor, trash can liner replacements, exceed the cost of plastic grocery bags, cloth bags are polluting planet Earth more.
Tests on such bags are showing that bacteria is rampant on & in them.
IF they ban them where I live, I will switch to using kitchen trash bags & I will enter the stores with such bags.
Nothing is free in California, if you are a legal citizen.
I use the bags to pick up dog poop.
I used to throw them away, but now that they are reusable, I just dump out the poop and take them to the grocery store.
Our attorney general in Texas just got the bag ban bagged for all Texas cities and I couldn’t be happier. By proclamation of the Austin Oligarchy, we lived under the boot heel of a bag ban for 5 years and it was all about empty virtue signaling. Whether or not a person uses film bags or reusable cloth bags is entirely an individual preference. That ban was all about control. We have far bigger issues to worry about while hand wringing liberals are micro fretting over how best to manipulate and dispirit us.
