Ready, set, shop: Is a record-setting $1 trillion retail holiday season in the offing?
By Jackie Crosby Star Tribune (Minneapolis) (TNS) Dec 1, 2019
The outlookThe 2019 holiday could mark retailers first ever trillion-dollar shopping season, according to a number of market research firms, including Deloitte and eMarketer.
Deloitte forecasts a bump in sales as high as 5 percent compared with last year. The nations largest retail industry group, the National Retail Federation (NRF), expects consumers to spend an average of $1,048 during the holiday shopping season. NRFs crystal ball readers predict a 4.2 percent increase at the high end.
I’m usually up about 3 AM, and turn on CNBC first thing. I can tell by the demeanor of the anchors what kind of business newsday it’ll be. Long faces = markets up.

I saw local news stories (in NJ) that they didn’t have the same crowds and scenes as in years past, then I saw a story about a lockdown in a mall in Syracuse (due to a shooting). There is no doubt in my mind the two are connected; the internet didn’t just eliminate borders in many ways, it helped people remove themselves from dangerous ferals in public.
Breaking records, and breaking minds.
I did my share...New TV...1/2 price at Walmart.
Yepppers! Creating more consumer debt is a win/win for everyone!
You need to watch the money honey and then Voneee
Yeah, I almost sprung for a new Visio 65” on sale at Wally World, but I had already bought two new TV’s last year.
I’ll watch Joe Kernan, then switch to Varney.
I thought the tariffs would just RUIN holiday spending.... /sarc
What kind of a TV?
Vizio* 65” for under $400!
That is crazy! Might of stood in line for that.
If you believe Carvana, you can buy your car with your phone while eating bon bons in your PJ’s in bed : )
You can now get a 65” TV for less than $300 at Wally World! A really good one for $400.
