Thousands of demonstrators in Hong Kong staged a “Thanksgiving” rally on Thursday evening in response to President Donald Trump signing two bills in support of the city’s pro-democracy movement.

Demonstrators took to the streets shortly after the president signed the legislation. Some draped themselves in U.S. flags and expressed gratitude for the administration’s support.

“The rationale for us having this rally is to show our gratitude and thank the U.S Congress and also President Trump for passing the bill,” student Sunny Cheung, 23, told Reuters. “We are really grateful about that and we really appreciate the effort made by Americans who support Hong Kong, who stand with Hong Kong, who do not choose to side with Beijing.”

> “I’m just sick of us feeling that it’s our responsibility to have our hands all over the world, and to police so much of it. We have soldiers in almost every country in the world. Why?”

Because we want to maintain our status as the most powerful nation on earth, and to that end, we better be on top of everything. The more powerful we are, the more vigilant we’ll have to be; though I agree we should reevaluate all our foreign deployments periodically.

And foreign intervention does not always have to be a military one, sometimes a phone call is all it takes. The President last week told us if not for him, Hong Kong would have been obliterated in 14 minutes. Apparently, a bloody crackdown was planned but was averted with a phone call. (That the CCP was basically mute after the President’s revelation tells us the whole thing must be true.)

Not our concern.

Not that we have to go to war with China over it, but expressing support for a true freedom movement like that in Hong Kong puts the ChiComs on notice we're serious about holding them in check.
