Around 100 students walked out of West Linn High School in Oregon last week in protest of the school’s decision to allow a Chick-fil-A food truck to sell chicken sandwiches during one of the school’s football games, among other microaggressions they said were making LGBT students feel “unsafe.”
“West Linn High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance organized the walkout and says the current culture at the school is not safe for LGBTQ+ students. They posted to Instagram saying students are being harassed in sports games and in classrooms,” local news station KATU reported.

If they skipped school, mark them absent, and give them a zero on any work they missed. If they skipped a football game, their loss, just ignore them.

Remember this the next time you hear the media’s breathless reporting of student walkouts over climate change or guns. They will literally walk out of school over a chicken sandwich, it doesn’t take any real ‘cause’ to motivate them, just an excuse to cut class is enough.
I don’t say that to deride these students, I know I would have done the same thing as a teenager, even if the political reason was something I myself only had complete apathy towards. Just remember these walkouts are usually choreographed by some adults using the students as props to spread a narrative, and the students oblige because “hey, no school!”
