Barr to Announce New Initiative to Combat Violence Carried Out With Guns

Attorney General Bill Barr will announce a new Department of Justice initiative tomorrow called Project Guardian. Project Guardian, which will be implemented through ATF and overseen by DOJ, will focus on preventing "gun violence" in cities across the country.

Barr will make the announcement and detail the project Wednesday from downtown Memphis. He will be joined by ATF Acting Director Regina Lombardo, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee D. Michael Dunavant and ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Nashville Field Division Marcus Watson.

In the meantime, President Trump's DOJ has been setting records for prosecutions against felony possession of firearms, against criminals carrying out crimes with firearms, illegal firearms sales and more.

"According to data from the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), the number of defendants charged with criminal felony offenses increased by nearly 15 percent from more than 71,200 defendants in FY 2017 to more than 81,800 in FY 2018. In FY 2018, the Justice Department charged the largest number of violent crime defendants since EOUSA started to track this category more than 25 years ago (more than 16,800)—surpassing by nearly 15 percent the previous record set just last year," DOJ released last year. "In FY 2018, the Justice Department charged more than 15,300 defendants with federal firearms offenses, which is 17 percent more than the previous record."

In other words, instead of demanding additional gun control, DOJ is enforcing laws already on the books.

Attorney General Barr has a record of Second Amendment support and has expressed the need to go after criminals breaking the law to reduce violence.

"There is no “blunting”. Not now, not ever."

"Blunting" meaning fending off.
Enforcing existing laws rather than adding new and more restrictive laws is what we've been harping on.
Someone is listening to us. That's a good thing. And keeps the commies chasing their tales.

No. Those who commit “violence carred out with guns” are disproportionately also those that engage in drug trafficking, illegal small arms sales, and human trafficking. The reason socialists don’t prosecute more aggressively is because they support those other activities. The money goes to international organized crime groups. Prosecuting foot soldiers/dealers brings leads and information to work up the chain creating a trail of evidence that leads to the Democrats.

Remember too that its not as though he is personally developing each case. He is administrating and can delegate many cases across a team so that no issue is given less effort than necessary.

Barr is a deep state pig. He’s only there to protect the police state. He might indict a couple 2nd tier people but that’s only to get conservatives to shut up. He’s into pre crime enforcement.

I don’t mind the intent of what is being announced. I just think it’s a far less important issue than something that would warrant the Attorney Generals public appearance. There is nothing that will stop the Left from trying to disarm Americans.

We already know how to combat gun violence, it's called Project Exile.

However, the results are that too many people of color are incarcerated, which is racist.

Most of this should be done at the state level. States should be enforcing the law here when citizens commit domestic crimes.
Federal government operates in relative secrecy and that’s why we have so many problems with these agencies.
It’s disgusting that so many purported conservatives reflexively believe in this expansive federal role.

Exactly. What are you doing over this trivial stuff when things that are tearing our country down are being left undone?

Perhaps he’s gotten over being appalled at Epstein’s “suicide” on his watch, and now has a little more time.

You do realize the US AG office has thousands of Asst AGs and staff minions to do the bits and pieces nug work of these things, right? Durham is the guy running the deep state schmucking, not Barr, as well.

He like all agency/department heads, is a leader, not a doer....

Focusing narrowly on guns, rather than comprehensively addressing the far larger matter of violence as a whole.

Common sense approach, odd coming from government. If true it would be a good start.
