Barr to Announce New Initiative to Combat Violence Carried Out With Guns

Attorney General Bill Barr will announce a new Department of Justice initiative tomorrow called Project Guardian. Project Guardian, which will be implemented through ATF and overseen by DOJ, will focus on preventing "gun violence" in cities across the country.

Barr will make the announcement and detail the project Wednesday from downtown Memphis. He will be joined by ATF Acting Director Regina Lombardo, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee D. Michael Dunavant and ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Nashville Field Division Marcus Watson.

In the meantime, President Trump's DOJ has been setting records for prosecutions against felony possession of firearms, against criminals carrying out crimes with firearms, illegal firearms sales and more.

"According to data from the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), the number of defendants charged with criminal felony offenses increased by nearly 15 percent from more than 71,200 defendants in FY 2017 to more than 81,800 in FY 2018. In FY 2018, the Justice Department charged the largest number of violent crime defendants since EOUSA started to track this category more than 25 years ago (more than 16,800)—surpassing by nearly 15 percent the previous record set just last year," DOJ released last year. "In FY 2018, the Justice Department charged more than 15,300 defendants with federal firearms offenses, which is 17 percent more than the previous record."

In other words, instead of demanding additional gun control, DOJ is enforcing laws already on the books.

Attorney General Barr has a record of Second Amendment support and has expressed the need to go after criminals breaking the law to reduce violence.

Because most violent crime is not carried out with guns.
Although you could argue that most murders which actually get solved are those in which the perpetrator failed to plan out a more silent method which doesn’t create all the forensic evidence which guns create.

So, since I believe that the proper goal is to educate the public about how to anticipate, prepare for, and survive violence this almost exclusive focus on one little part of criminal violence appears counter productive.

In fact, the only reason I can see to do it at all is to attempt to groom the public to accept disarmament.

So, since I don’t with to see the Trump administration persuing a hard left agenda...Barr needs his chain yanked back hard.

Good. If they actually enforced these laws, the black population would be very happy since blacks represent the largest number of victims of shootings, both targeted and random.

Most if not all of the guns are illegal to begin with, either stolen or homemade, they’re in the hands of convicted felons who could never get a permit, and they’re concealed and carried on the streets, buses, subways...and the police in NYC are no longer allowed to do stop and frisk of known criminals and not even allowed to arrest the illegally armed young black men they catch in the course of other actions. De Blasio and Cuomo insanity.

So yes, enforce the laws and cut off aid to states or cities that won’t do it.

“How can you argue against the Justice Dept. reinvigorating enforcement of existing gun laws?”

This isn’t federal, but, in this town there is meth all over the place. Or so I am told.

Despite this, the Police seem fine with expending their limited resources on seat-belt campaigns.

I’d like to tell them not even to utter the words “seat belt” until they’ve cleaned up the meth, heroin, and cocaine.

A knife (or a baseball bat) will kill you just as dead as a Desert Eagle. I’d like to tell Barr to focus his attention on the deportation of illegal aliens and the suppression of election fraud.

After all, if we cleaned up election fraud, the demonrats would have trouble getting elected to the post of dogcatcher.

It would be a start

The revolving door for gun crimes is the reason we have a rise in gun crimes

Yep, seems like I've read that here many times.

"One would think Barr would have higher priority issues on his plate."

Higher than blunting an all-out assault on our 2nd Amendment?

There is no “blunting”. Not now, not ever.

1) Homemade guns are not illegal.

2) Permit? Where’s that in the constitution?

3) Concealed? Perfectly legal in sane States that abide by the constitution.

4) Carried by people going about their daily business? Perfectly legal in sane States that abide by the Constitution.

OK, I like it that we are enforcing the felon in possession of a firearm laws.

But, Barr, focus on the Steele and FISA abuse before you put more on the plate of the DOJ and its investigators.

Agree.

With the advent of the National Register for Medical Marijuana, few realize that their name on this register allows ATF to confiscate their firearms if they don't voluntarily sell them or give them to family members.

Medical marijuana and the 'opioid crisis' which resulted in the draconian reduction in lawful pain medication prescriptions is nothing more than back-door registration and firearm confiscation.

I think Barr has enough manpower to do both. Enforcing existing laws is a great step. Personally I want to know the status of enforcing laws wrt sanctuary cities/states.

1. Deport ALL the illegals/anchor babies.
2. Imprison ALL gang members who are not here illegally.
3. Build the damn wall.
