Prayers up for Jimmy, Rosalynn, and their children. This is a tough time in any family’s life. May the Lord smooth the way, make straight the path, and lead Jimmy Home.

Carter supported the PLO as a means to seeking an agreement. He sided with terrorists.

I’m not anywhere near perfect.

I had a very tumultuous first marriage, and I dedicated myself to doing a lot better job the second time around.

So I did. I avoided mistakes from the first marriage. Then found other unintended ones to drive her crazv, evidently.

Trump has not made his bonafides on the issue of him being a good Christian man.

Nobod ever said Trump was just a really nice Sunday School teacher.

Carter’s failures led to Reagan (whose leadership made me into a conservative). In terms of policy, the only president whose Middle East foreign policy was as disastrous was George W Bush.

One let Iran go over to the Ayatollahs without a whimper, the other started the destabilization of the entire Middle East by invading Iraq (a process completed by his Marxist successor).

What does it say for our nation that (not counting the present incumbent), of the previous 4 inhabitants of the Oval Office (split equally between the two parties), two were rank incompetents, one was raised a “trasformational” Marxist who made a terrible situation worse, and the most effective was a lefty-rapist organized criminal (bribe graft intimidation, etc, etc)?

It explains why we got Trump, but also illustrates that,in the long run, we are probably 100% F***ed.

I guess we all just have to find the person whose horrible flaws dovetail with our own ;-)

He was running for President, not for Saint. (And I think we heard similar here, when our current president was running - many of us said that we were electing a president, not a pastor - and many of us who love and support President Trump have sometimes felt that his words, in certain situations, have been somewhat ill-advised.)

It may have been a mistake to grant an interview to Playboy in the first place; but I find his admission - and what I believe to have been a sincere impulse behind it - to have been a sign of his recognition of his own humanity and flawed human condition.

What would ‘they’ have made of it, if he had NOT been straightforward; tried to maintain some illusion that he was perfect and had ‘never lusted’ in his heart - when almost every red-blooded man - and woman - HAS done?

(When you run for President, come back and tell us of all the bad advice you received from advisors, all the mistakes you made, all the times you were blindsided, misrepresented, your words quoted incompletely or taken out of context.)

I’ve never been a ‘fan’ of the political Carter. I think he was very naive, over his head in the presidency, and very misguided in some of the ways he has acted.

My interest in this thread has been a human one - he’s very old and sick, he’s done a lot of good work during his life despite the poor decisions that we may regret; and he has a family that loves him. It’s a moment when we should be ‘Christian’ - to use what appears to describe your own identity - and charitable.

There will be plenty of time to write more history, and further condemn, later.

One can hope his surgery was successful and that
his suffering is short.

Kind of hard to hold an impeachment in the middle
of a presidential funeral, of course there’s RBG
in the wings too. That would be a shame...

Maybe, but he sure was a phony in his time. He used to carry his own garment bag when he was getting off a plane to show he was just one of us common folk. Problem is, the bag was empty.

He ruined the economy and then delivered pompous lectures to the American public. I don’t wish him ill, but that doesn’t rehabilitate his record.

“A Christian is not afraid of death except in the normal way that anyone would fear destruction of the body. He knows there is the Divine promise of eternal life with God, and looks forward to the happiness of heaven. Faith provides comfort and assurance of life beyond the grave.”

We agree. Further, if you follow the concept of Near Death Experiences (NDE) it is quite obvious that the next phase of our spirit is a great improvement over what we have here.
