"For those who make the rules, there are no rules," declares Tommy Shelby, the infamous head of a crime family and also a newly elected member of the British Parliament in the latest season of the hit TV series Peaky Blinders. The series is a multi-season award-winning British crime drama appearing on Netflix in the U.S. It is set in Birmingham, England in the time period 1919 to 1929 and features a powerful and violent crime family called Peaky Blinders, led by the Shelby family, with Tommy Shelby as the lead mobster.
Shelby, played by the actor Cillian Murphy, advances his gang's criminal activities over the years from the ordinary mixture of theft, gambling, and illegal distribution of alcohol and drugs to more ambitious moneymaking pursuits. Tommy is a portrayed as a highly intelligent and ingenious character, and he envisions that holding elected political office will offer numerous opportunities to legitimize his business as well as offering a way to gain entry to all the potential inside dealings of government.
His objective is to gain the widest possible access to fame, power, and riches beyond his previous reach as a local crime boss and to achieve the pinnacle of privilege and success. He runs for and wins a seat in Parliament from his home district in Birmingham, running as a Socialist, publicly advocating on behalf of the working class. However, his most important constituents are himself and his family.
In the series, Tommy seizes the opportunity as a newly elected member of the political establishment to operate outside the law and use the powers of the office to align himself as an insider with several powerful government connections with access to various highly lucrative business opportunities associated with the workings of government.

You can wake up from your dream now.
Themselves. Certainly not us.
They don’t ‘serve’ .....that’s the problem.
They seve themselves...my guess 80 percent are crooked..
Apparently Russia and Ukraine...
They want the power given to them, and the material/monetary benefits.
BRING BACK TERM LIMITS!!
We never had term limits. The idea was rejected at the Constitutional Convention of 1787 because the delegates understood that there needed to be some kind of “institutional memory.”
Whomever they serve, the American people are at the very bottom of the list. Almost an after shot.
First and foremost they serve themselves.
I believe that the founders did not consider term limits because back then the life expectancy was no where near being 80-90 years old they could have NEVER foreseen these bastards being in congress and senate for 50+ years!! Their total life span back then was only 50 years IF THAT!!!
Their wallets.
Between the end of the War of 1812 and 1852, three career politicians in Congress ran the country while presidents came and went with little impact, except for Andrew Jackson, who had a large impact. Daniel Webster, Henry Clay and John Calhoun were professional politicians. When they weren't in Congress, they were in the Cabinet and spent very little time out of office. I would recommend The Great Triumvirate: Webster, Clay and Calhoun by Merrill D. Peterson, a book to which I refer quite often.
The Great Triumvirate all made it in to their 70s before passing on.
Lifespan wasn't the reason that the Convention decided not to opt for term limits.
Themselves.
Wrong. Their bread butters.
Bingo.
You nailed it. Both parties. All our leadership. Our media, our entire manufacturing base.
Everyone. Until Donald Trump.
For the last THIRTY YEARS, has been selling out to China.
Everyone.
I find many, many very smart people don't realize how true this is... Yet.
It all started with Tricky Dick Nixon. He did us no favor.
I was in China back around then. Shortly after.
Nixon did not start the sellout, in my view.
No our relationship could have been very good right now, if only we had insisted on reciprocity.
Very simple.
We did not. Now I wonder what will happen.
It is starting to appear, it is becoming a complete conflict.
Lots, and lots, and lots of people sold out.
Basically our entire establishment.
Trump is doing the right thing, but now, WAY too many of the people who should be supporting him, are already SOLD OUT.
This is a huge problem.
Certainly not us.
They work for the highest bidder no matter where they come from or what they want. Most have no limits, no scruples, no morals, no honor, no principles. They are mostly devotees of power and money. The order does not matter.
They are high cost whores.
I don’t think the American people are on the list for most.
Tricky Dick did us NO favors at all that I am aware of.
For profit health care.
EPA
OSHA
abolish the gold standard
Baseline budgeting
etc.
Great guy huh? But not a crook, so he said.
