The state of California will pay $3.85 million to researchers at the University of California, Davis, to develop the nations first program to train health care professionals to help their patients reduce firearm-related injury and death, university officials announced Tuesday.

“Yo, dude, don’t shoot yourself”
Education completed.
Doc pulls out a firearm.
Point this end towards the target.
If my doctor wastes even one second of the 15 minutes with him that I pay for on guns, he will be promptly fired on the spot, and he will be told why.
California Medical Professionals will now counsel all patients and their families to move out of California.
LOL! Well, they already said the raised gas tax won’t be used for road improvements. And, over here in NV starting this month vehicle mileage will be recorded when doing yearly registration to “see what patterns are being used” by drivers. IOW before long there will be a tax on miles driven in NV. Actually it won’t matter where you drive, you/we will be taxed on the miles regardless. Crock o’ crap.
My doctor asked if I owned a gun. Even though I had one in my pocket I looked him in the eye and said no. He seemed relieved.
Shouldn’t that Money be going to NRA Firearm Instructors?
Yeah, tell parents to spank their kids when they misbehave. Mission accomplished.
Anyone get one of those annual questionnaires at the doc asking if you own a gun and are suicidal?
My wife used to get that from the pediatrician and when she asked why she was told it was so they could remind parents to lock up their guns. From then on our answer became, "There are no unsecured firearms in our house."
My Doc started to ask about guns. I stopped him mid sentance. I gently explained that the reason I went to him for medical ADVICE, was because his training and experience exceeded my own. Same for why I go to an auto mechanic, a plumber and an electrician.
Likewise I expect the same from someone who provides security advice. Now considering that I have 7 years of Infantry experience and I am a trained range saftey officer and have even trained members of a SWAT team, and further I have twenty five years in both IT and physical security, I highly doubt that his training exceeded my own.
However, I will leave open that possibility and leave the issue open for discussion .... assuming that he is prepared to demonstrate his training.
He said, “Your right”, and moved on. That was several years ago and he never brought the subject up again.
My sports doc says she always feels safer when I am in the office for an appointment.
“My doctor asked if I owned a gun.”
Replies: “Is there something in particular that has you worried Doc?”
On my last ten years of service in the Air Force....every time I had to see a doctor...they had to ask if I smoked. At the beginning of this stuff...I answered that I like an occasional cigar (like five a year). That got me a 5-minute lecture on the evils of cigar smoking and cancer.
After that, I always said no. Upon retirement, if I used the base clinic...they still wanted to ask me the question, and I learned to answer that I didn’t...but my wife smokes cigars morning, noon and night.
The California Doctors position?
Goes like this:
**********************
You have a gun in your house?
I am obligated by California state regulation to inform your Health Insurance Adjusters, and your premiums will likely increase dramatically.
Of course you can always turn it into The State of California Dept. of Safety, and get a Certificate of anbandonment, and your premiums won’t change.
*****************************
So, doctors will be training patients how to properly maintain firearms to prevent rust and ruin? That’s what “gun death” is.
Okay, but how do you get the gangbangers and criminals INTO the doctor’s office to begin with?
This studyneeds another $17 billion for further studies.
hire doctors from USC Med center in LA and combat medics.
