Pelosi: No House vote on impeachment inquiry [Developing]
The Hill ^ | October 15, 2019 | Scott Wong, Mike Lillis

Speaker Nancy Pelosi continued to stand firm Tuesday, insisting she will not stage a vote on the House floor to officially launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

Trump and his Republican allies have been pressuring Pelosi to hold a formal vote to begin the investigation — a move they believe would grant them more power and influence in the process, including the ability to call and subpoena their own witnesses.

Last month, Pelosi formally launched an impeachment inquiry into Trump after months of resisting calls from her caucus to do so, but she has faced pressure to hold an on-the-record vote from both Democrats seeking Trump's ouster and Republicans who view the issue as a political winner.

The impeachment inquiry followed Trump's admission that he pressured Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, as well as a whistleblower's complaint that alleges Trump sought the probe in order to help his own chances ahead of the 2020 election.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the investigation as a "witch hunt," while House Democrats have held a series of behind-closed-doors hearings in recent weeks with administration officials involved in Ukraine policy, including former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch on Friday, former Trump Russia adviser Fiona Hill on Monday and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent on Tuesday.

Pelosi's announcement came less than two hours before the Democratic 2020 primary field is set to hold its first debate since the impeachment inquiry began.

But the media will be telling all who believe them that a vote makes no difference.
Never mind the court’s ruling that a vote is needed for those “subpoenas”.

You’re right. If there’s a vote, then it becomes a legal proceeding that has to be conducted by the normal rules. She has prevented it from becoming this, and therefore, it can be conducted in secrecy with only one party present.

I think Trump should get aggressive and sue, because this is not Constitutional. The House and Senate make their own rules, but they cannot possibly be allowed to make rules that subvert the basic constitutional guarantees of rights and legality.

It is true that the House and Senate make their own rules but they have to make them within the parameters of the Constitution. And the Constitution already has a process for impeachment laid out. President Trump needs to stop this ongoing coup by the Deep State.

I have been saying “she does not have the votes” for some time.

And then she had that phony vote about “inquiry” and she got more than 217, so I assumed she could take a legitimate vote and she was just being mean.

But tonight, I heard Rep Goetz say that she:

DOESN’T HAVE THE VOTES. And I was happy.

I AGREE THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP SHOULD SUE ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND PERCENT.

What Pelosi is doing right now is AFFECTING ALL OF OUR LIVES.

She is ruining our justice system. We cannot let her do that.

The vile, demonic Botoxian cannot afford to have a formal vote as it would open up “discovery” on both sides. They are so evil and corrupt that “discovery” would reveal to the voting public just how corrupt they really are. There is NO WAY the Botoxian can allow that as she, herself, would be indicted during “discovery”.
Basically, the communists are “dead men walking”...we know it, they know it and they are frantically desperate. They really have only one option left at this point and it is a deep state “wetwork”. Pray for our POTUS and his family’s security.

Ain’t gonna BE no due process if she can help it. Trying him in the headlines is working so well - no reason to hear Trump’s side of things.

I agree. The impeachment proceeding in the House had been informally established and bi-partisan and open and legal, but Nancy, knowing that she wouldn’t have the votes, decided to do a run-around.

But for the life of me, I don’t see how any government organism or branch can suddenly create a legally binding “process” that ignores all of the legal guarantees of our Constitution. Somebody has got to call a halt to this, challenge it and take it to the Supreme Court.

A President does not have more but also does not have fewer rights than any other average American citizen.

Why would she though? She would just put the red state democrat reps at risk, and that’s a big IF... if she even has their vote. They just want to continue on with the BS double-secret dem-only depositions that can be selectively leaked to their media in an attempt to swing opinions on impeachment. It’s criminal, and treasonous in my opinion.

While Senate committees sit silent. But that’s another issue.

Apparently, they haven’t quite *perfected* their lawfare skills.

They do put a lot of energy into firing up exploding cigars, though. It seems to be something of a hobby.

___________

What she WILL "stage" is a perverted, immoral charade.

At some point, Mitch McConnell should announce that any Impeachment created from these inquiries that is sent to the Senate by Madam Pelosi, will be quickly dismissed by the Senate Majority Leader before it ever makes it to the floor of the Senate.
