I am a landlord in the low end rental market. If somebody doesn’t have a job in today’s economy it’s because they don’t want one. Even people who were previously passed over because of criminal convictions are employed now. (I had a tile setter as a renter with several priors. He could be working 60 hours a week if he could physically do it.)
How are they living? Drug sales, using their EBT card to buy expensive meat and reselling it...quite a large market according to an ex-renter. Also, many work for cash at a variety of jobs. Don’t forget begging, which can net a pretty fair amount of cash. People doing this have no desire to tie themselves to a 40 hour job, day-in-day-out for week after interminable week.
It does not matter if it is 1 in 7 or 1 in 7000, there is no excuse not to have a job in this economy.

The article links the study but the study doesn’t really support the article. For one th article is about a world wide decline in the job prospects of men. The article makes it sound like it’s about the US. For another thing the article two about Trump etc. I don’t see any mention of Trump in the linked study.
