"Social Security Disability and jail would be my guess."

That and personal choice. Son in law is 45, Has a piddly retirement pension from the local fire department. He does not have nor does not want a regular job. He spends half his time hunting and fishing and the other half in the barter economy. Mechanical work, welding, and bush hogging. He leads a happy life.

My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She’s had surgery and starts chemo next week. I am done looking and back to caregiving.

I have enough cash to get me through retirement age, but I was hoping to keep it for “a good retirement.” But it appears that ship has sailed all around.

There are indeed talented, creative, and productive men out there without jobs.

There are also untalented lying slouches who couldn’t produce value if their lives depended upon it.

So, let’s get rid of Democrat congresscritters out of office and create good jobs on the productive side of congress to bring the country forward.

Make the legal profession gr...er...at least minimally acceptable again.

They have a story but, the one that makes them self determined, independent and able to stand on their own two feet....

I personally know people like this and they program themselves into poverty everyday

Women supporting loser men?

It’s beyond my comprehension, why any self respecting woman would allow herself to be used that way. But I guess it happens.

You're not one of the folks who destroyed a place in Cedar Knolls, NJ, by any chance? All of us are fine, even though that place doesn't exist any more; thank you.

I work in employee benefits.

Women are taking over and have all the cushy higher paying jobs in all areas and it’s growing. Veterinarians, dentist, pharmacy etc schools are now 90% women

Men w/o degrees are getting the $11 hr factory jobs with no future.

I know of plenty that have dropped out. They barter, under the table cash, work only when they need the money. live in a $3000 trailer and a 2001 rusted out Ford ranger pu worth $400

Drop off the grid both with women and jobs. They have given up in life

More common than what you think with that male demographic

Just as I suspected. Many of the men ‘not in the labor force’ are out doing work and making money. They just don’t have an employer, and do the jobs for cash or barter.

Agreed. There are a great many people that put themselves into poverty due to drugs, alcohol or mental disability. But there are also those who happen to become unemployed and destitute deapite their best efforts otherwise.

My point is we should not paint them all with the same broad brush.

They care about this now? Under their lord and master, Zerobowma, they kept changing the definition of unemployed. Now, basically if you can’t find a job within a month, they drop you from the unemployed roles. It is a crock, and it is fake news, even under Trump.
Shouldn’t unemployed include pretty much all Americans who aren’t working? That number would look really bad, but it would be far more accurate.

You are correct.

The little old lady down the street who works at the giant concert/hockey arena place (BBT in Sunrise FL where the Panthers play), taking tickets, said they need people. I applied to EVERY available job there and get rejected for each one.

Apparently little old ladies are more qualified to take tickets than I am.

ps for the past 20 yrs I have been a telecomm technical writer. I ain’t stupid.

“They just don’t have an employer, and do the jobs for cash or barter.”

Yep, see my stamen above. Earlier this year I needed some fencing removed. placed a call out on FB. Guy called me and came out and took it away for $300.

Before arriving he wanted cash. No problem. Late 90’s flatbed truck that had seen better days.

Living off the grid guy

There’s a guy standing on the median strip at a traffic light begging for money that I see every day on the way to work. He’s in his late 20’s I’d say. Very fit looking, neither overweight or emaciated. I’ve seen him with a cell phone before. Today he was dancing. As far as I can tell, he hasn’t missed a day in months. I suppose he would be considered unemployed.

I don’t think I’ve ever been in that part of Jersey, but it sounds like a good story.

I’m going with Door number two. The Left has been trying to move men, especially white men, out of productive society for decades as payback for all the years of perceived patriarchy. It looks like it’s working. Schools are geared towards girls, all the special educational programs locally are girls only and AA has done it’s part over the years to tilt the playing field against white men. I imagine those in the media and the halls of academia are welcoming this news as an indication of their success.

3.0% unemployment rate equals "1 in 7 men between 25 and 54 are unemployed."

As Barbie says, "math is hard."

Roughly 1 in 7 U.S. men between the ages of 25 and 54 aren't employed,

In this economy, if they don't have a job, they don't WANT a job.

You are so wrong.
I’ve been applying to 100s of jobs. You’d think a guy like me (who’s been a telecomm tech writer for the past 20 yrs) would be able to take tickets at the arena, or work at Advance auto or whatever.

ZIPPO.

And oddly enough, all the gubmint workers here are NOT WHITE.
This is Broward county. The sweaty armpit of FL.

I wonder if employers here look up who you voted for? Hmm
