You know what will fix this?

Lets import another few million illegals willing to work for slave wages, and another few hundred thousand H1B visa holders that do work for slave wages.

“If they aren’t employed, what are they doing? Who is supporting them? How do they pay their bills?”

Women. There are plenty of women who are attracted to losers. I don’t know why.

This article confuses “not employed” with “unemployed.” This is a terrible mistake (or a purposefully misleading statement) for a writer from a so-called “major news source” to make. The author should be fired. Even so, the BLS reports that the labor force participation rate among males age 25 to 54 is 89.1%, which is roughly 1 in 9 who are not employed, not 1 in 7 as the article claims. The only way to get to anywhere close to 1 in 7 is to include males from this age group who are in jail or prison or in a mental health facility.

That reminds me of my Brother-in-law. Always crying he could not find a job, I would open the Tulsa World and show him lots of jobs making decent money!

In 1980, I found HIM a great job doing the same work I was doing and making great money and greater benefits! Called him on the phone, told him to get over there and get his application in and described the job.

He said....”I don’t want to do that kind of work!” I simply said..”OK.” and hung up the phone. Never tried again.

He really did not want to work, and wanted the family to support him. Drawing Social Security he makes very little and when his wife quit her minimum wage job, she applied for his SS. Come to find out, HE had not worked long enough in the last 20 years for her to qualify on his income at all, so she is drawing on her minimum wage SS income.

Now their kids are supporting them.

The network and phone guy was laid off after 26 years back in January.

Over 50 I guess. He got another job last month. I don’t know all of the situation.

November seems to be the month that cuts hit. Anyone can be laid off. I am probably ok.

Maybe, sitting around in Mama’s basement, smoking weed, playing video games, and beating off to porn aren’t particularly marketable skills. But, of course, they’re too “stressed” to work because they saw someone wearing a MAGA hat, so off to SSI Disability they go.

We used to have a word for this type of “man”.

Bum.

OECD? Never EVER heard of this group. Besides with close to a MILLION more jobs available than there are workers to take them there is no excuse for anyone sitting on their ass unless they simply do not want to work.

It’s from See BS anyway so you know it has been spun to be negative against Trump.

You are absolutely correct.

Sure, there are those who just won’t work and a larger number who after a number of years of looking become discouraged and give up, but a large majority are still actively looking. Too many employers still will give preference to gender and minority status as well as H1Bs and illegals. I know plenty of young, capable guys who only work at labor or craftsman positions sporadically because illegals are hired before them or are hired to take their places.

The age range is more accurately between 18 and 65. Yep, there are many of us old folks (I’m 69) still working full time and part time because recovering from the economy of the fascist Kenyan is a slow process. Add to that, they don’t want anyone over 50 and will still gravitate toward illegals and H1Bs, cheap foreign labor.

Yes, Trump has done a tremendous job at moving the economy into historic levels, but they never report what percentage of those new jobs go to non-citizens.

Retrain? Try to be a single white guy wanting to retrain. No money? Too bad, and if the govt. does offer retraining it is in a field that still goes mostly to non-citizens. Do you have a true, documented disability? Good luck again gaining a disability anytime soon. Same goes for medical help for emergency treatment. They will hound the single guy for payment but they don’t go after single mothers or illegals with the same zeal. Moving to another city to get a job is a huge problem; if have no money, you’re stuck in place.

I know, deal with, work with, and work in educating single guys in this situation. There are many who want to work but they end up sucking hind tit.

They’re not lazy or without training or talents, but the war on boys, and men has gone on for a long time now and the other side has won.

Enough of the generalizing about they all are lazy and don’t want to work. If you accept/hire non-citizens over citizens as an employer then you are a big part of the problem.

I have a friend who’s a professional engineer, early fifties with wife and children. His contract ran out and he is not getting any nibbles after sending out over 100 resumes. Now their house is up for sale. I’m very worried about them.

I went through two straight years of unemployment in the 90s. It was hell. These things do happen to people, and older workers are more vulnerable.

It’s the way of George W. Bush and the Democrats.

Oh, that’s redundant. Sorry.

From the IZA study quoted in the CBS article:

“30% of the OLF (out of the labor force) are ill or disabled, 40% are caregivers, 8% are students, and 5% are early retirees.”

Thus, most are on SSI disability (some fraudulently) or have dropped out to care for a parent or spouse.

Considering that colleges have been taking more women than men over the last two decades, it is no wonder that men aren’t getting a whole lot of the college-required jobs.

Considering that a good portion of those are probably snowflakes who have never left their mommy’s basement, which means they are in no way prepared for the REAL work that is available - construction is hiring just about EVERYWHERE and in EVERY INDUSTRY!! Trucking is hiring just about everywhere! There isn’t a large city police force that isn’t hiring every single year - most are hiring QUARTERLY!!!

The only reason 1 in 7 are out of work is because six out of every seven of those “ones” DON’T WANT TO WORK!! Or they are simply not capable of competing in 2019 for serious employment!!
