The U.S. economy's hidden problem: Men without jobs
CBS ^ | October 2, 2019 | Aimee Picchi

America's job market may be the strongest it's been in at least half a century, but not all workers are getting a lift. The proportion of men in their prime working years without a job is higher today than it was before the Great Recession, according to a new study.

Roughly 1 in 7 U.S. men between the ages of 25 and 54 aren't employed, federal labor data show. That's a higher rate of unemployment for the group than in 2007, the year before the housing crash slammed the economy.

Moving is tough. All family is here. Wife’s family all relocated here from NY recently. My family’s been here since 1972. After “retirement” I hope to move to Central FL.

And oddly enough, all the gubmint workers here are NOT WHITE.

This is the case everywhere, not just Broward. If you're white, you can go ahead and apply, but your chances of getting a gubmint job are slim and none. Maybe you should pull an "Elizabeth Warren" and claim to be Native American. It worked for her for thirty or forty years.

Ones with Child and/or spousal support >50% of net income
Supported by wife, momma, or girlfriend
Cash worker

Yes Dem workers may make more but not near enough more to live in one of their worker’s paradises.

Many stores I walk into nowadays have “Help Wanted” signs in the window.

Screw the intentionally unemployed.

I do understand the goal for years has been to eliminate the white male. Promotion of minorities and females through diversity programs in hiring and education no matter the final cost.

I have three sons, 1 acquired through marriage (in his mid 40s), 1 acquired through his family’s lack of concern (in his mid 30s), and 1 through giving birth (in his early 30s).
The oldest one flitted from job to job until he was 30 (definitely his own fault because you have to show up to work to keep a job), went to tech school as a gateway into a DOD job and is earning decent money.
The middle one is making a career in the military. He is currently a recruiter, and you wouldn’t believe the number of people who would rather live on the dole or in their parents’ basement than go in the military.
The youngest went into the military after high school. He insisted that college would be a waste of his time and my money. Got out and went to school to become an EMT. He loved it so much he became a nurse.

Contrast this with my brother who is 50. He has been in the military at least twice, used up his GI bill, and has several certifications. Doesn’t want a job, he wants a position preferably one with no responsibilities just that 6 figure salary he deserves. I have no idea what he will do when my parents die.

My point is that there are jobs out there, and there is no way that 1 in 7 white males is without a job unless it is voluntary. They may not be the job you want, but they are jobs and it so much easier to get a job if you have a job. Even my senior citizen husband was working part-time until just a couple of months ago when I retired.

I have a buddy of mine that worked for NASA and is an Air Force veteran that is finding it difficult to find a job.
I myself am working way below my standard level of employment. They don’t want to hire can white guy over 50 no matter have much experience you have.

Just another attempt by the leftist press to make a 3.6 % unemployment rate look bad, and Trump along with it.

I think a great many of the unemployed men in big cities are either snowflakes who can’t find their ass with both hands and live off mommy and daddy, a wife or a girlfriend-or deadbeats who are more interested in lying around and an EBT card than making any money themselves. But those labels don’t fit in rural areas-this is a different world, and I’ll bet no rural areas were surveyed to get those numbers.

Anyone out here who wants work and is willing to work a blue collar job has one right away-but outsiders from the city don’t get hired-they are lazy and unreliable, especially the younger ones, both male and female-city people say we are clannish rednecks just because we hire/do business with our neighbors first-well, your neighbor is trustworthy and reliable...

I live in a rural area where many/most of us are capable of living off grid if TSHTF, and there are a lot of people live off-grid fulltime and love it-I’m looking at doing it myself within the next year or so.

Most of us are older people who are delighted to be self-employed after many years working for others, and don’t mind simple living-the area is all acreage properties except for a couple of small riverside fancy enclaves. Our home-based businesses are varied-operating a vehicle/boat mechanic shop in a garage or barn, doing welding, long haul trucking, raising poultry for eggs and meat, livestock for milk and meat, making goat’s milk yogurt and cheese, gardens of herbs and veggies-all organic-all for personal use and sale or barter if the trade is a good one.

I take barter or cash for everything from doing estimates and drawing plans to construction labor-all blue collar work in a place where more than 1/2 of us are college educated-those degrees are useless in a rural area-and the barter you do with a neighbor is more valuable than cash-people stick together and watch out for each other in BFE/redneck land...

There must be an occupational title for that, since he is doing something for money-standing there, holding a sign, dancing-I’d call it “creative begging technician”...

I am becoming afraid that we are heading toward a serious crisis of the male psyche that will affect our entire society even further than we have seen so far. We have a generation or two of young men who have been, as you say, so ‘messed with’.

Women in general are going to be very sorry in the near future for the influence that they’ve allowed the radical feminists to exert.

If no one will give you a job give yourself one.

I’ve been self employed for over 30 years.

There is a difference between what we HAVE to do, and what we feel like we should be doing.

I guess I could just go get in my truck, hook up the camper, and drive around aimlessly.
