Two Republicans, one of them former congressman Bob Inglis, have sued the S.C. Republican Party over its decision to cancel its GOP presidential primary next year.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Richland County, alleges the party scrapped their 2020 election contest illegally and violated its own party rules and state election law.
The suit further contends the near-unanimous decision made by the state partys Executive Committee deprives Inglis, of Greenville, and fellow plaintiff Frank Heindel of Mount Pleasant, of their right to vote for the candidate of their choosing in the 2020 primary.
Instead, the State Executive Committee has chosen which candidate to support by fiat, and in doing so, excluded Republican voters from the process entirely in violation of the law and its own rules, the lawsuit states.
The suit comes after the executive committee Sept. 7 met in Columbia and voted to forgo a presidential primary, an organizational move that cleared the way for President Donald Trump to receive all of the states nominating delegates without contest.

SOUNDS LIKE THE NY GOP PARTY EVERY GOVERNORS RACE
Never Trumpers upset Trump is going to be re-nominated by acclamation.
Like theres anything wrong with it.
I actually wish they would have a primary. I want to see Trump grind those RINOs into the dirt...
These grifters are sore that their plans to raise campaign cash has been ruined. There was no chance that they would have beaten President Trump, but they could have paid some bills with their Soros cash.
Exactly
But if they dont have a primary how will they choose nominees in state and local races? Am I missing something?
The article says “the presidential primary”. It doesn’t say that all primaries for state and federal candidates down ticket would be cancelled. Obviously there would be a primary in one district should a candidate wish to challenge a sitting office holder of the same party for his or her seat and then be given a chance to run for it in the general election.
And let me guess... These two crybabies are Joe Walsh supporters?
And Bill Weld and Mark Sanford supporters. Whose support is below 1%.
Doesnt justify the cost of holding primaries to satiate their vanities.
Violates the 14th Amendment.
I understand that, but as long as a primary is necessary in other races why not go ahead an put the presidential race on the ballot? If I lived in SC id appreciate the opportunity to cast my vote for Trump even if hes unopposed.
I would prefer primaries. But a political party is a private association that can choose its own procedures. Ask hilLIARy
Political parties are private organizations. Theyre not obligated to hold an election for choosing their candidates.
Yeah? How so?
The point is its completely unnecessary. Republican Party isnt going to waste money to ceremonially ratify an expected result.
Turnabout’s fair play. (Not that they know what fair play is). Do the leftists still want to keep Trump off the ballots?
Oh...wait...only liberals get to use dirty tricks.
I believe there is a Cabal in America and it is led the the ABA and they use the Democrat Party as their leader. I cannot prove this only by the deduction of what I have noticed over the years. Lawyers are the only people that do not lose anything.
> I understand that, but as long as a primary is necessary in other races why not go ahead an put the presidential race on the ballot?
In Arizona it’s estimated that eliminating the Republican presidential preference on the ballot will save about $3 million. Total cost would be $10 million with, $7 million without.
Which section of the 14th Amendment are you referring to? Do you have a specific interpretation in mind?
