BOGOTA, COLOMBIA Colombia's president is comparing Nicolás Maduro to Serbian war criminal Slobodan Milosevic and says Venezuela's embattled socialist leader would be making a "stupid" mistake were he to attack.
Ivan Duque made the comments in an interview Saturday with The Associated Press before traveling to New York. There, Duque is expected to condemn Maduro before the United Nations General Assembly as an abusive autocrat who is not only responsible for the country's humanitarian catastrophe but is also now a threat to regional stability for his alleged harboring of Colombian rebels.

Duque refused to rule out a military strike against the Marxist rebels he claims are hiding out across the border. But he says any aggression by Venezuela's armed forces would immediately trigger a regional response with dire consequences for Maduro.
“aggression by Venezuela’s armed forces would immediately trigger a regional response”
I’m guessing that would include Brazil.
From Wikipedia:
“Brazil’s armed forces are the third largest in the Americas, after the United States and Colombia, and the largest in Latin America”
Oops...
“and the largest in Latin America... by the level of military equipment”
China will back Maduro.
If regional means Brazil, Balsonaro is Trumps buddy. I dont think the Chinese would do much in our back yard.
How does a country with no economy expect to wage war?
Friends and family in Colombia claim Duque is a good guy. He will get support from the citizens.
I got the same impression last time I was in Barranquilla.
I think you are correct. Note sure of Colombia’s killer instinct though.
China is going to GET STIFFED, LOSE BILLIONS in Venezuela. When the people finally retake their government they won’t look kindly on vulture countries who signed abusive contracts supporting a COMMINUST DICTATORS. China is going to get its first financial bloody noes. CASTRO, INC. IS NEXT!
That’s good to know. Thanks.
I so hope you are right!
Colombians despite their forever civil war are very nationalistic
I love them
Always have.
Colombia occupies a special place in my held together by modern medicine old heart
I live there part time....5-6 months a year
Not likely. China can not support Venezuela if supplies can not get through. Check a map of the region and who voted with the U.S. on the TAIR statement two weeks ago. Venezuela's enemies are all in good positions to enforce embargoes and provide support for the U.S. military if needed (or requested).
Strategically, China needs U.S. trade more than they need to support a failing regime starting wars to prop itself up. Supporting a Venezuelan initiated conflict would make China look extremely bad to Central and South America, and lead those countries to ally with the U.S. even more. The Chinese are Communists, not stupid.
If Maduro starts a border war with Columbia he's utterly screwed.
I used to stay in Bogota and Barranquilla and elsewhere a lot in the 80s
Almost married a girl from a prominent family in Santander whod been there since mid 1600s land grants
I admired a lot about Colombian culture and the people
One group I knew in Barranquilla were third and fourth generation descendants from a Confederate naval officer to Admiral Semmes
Quite a place
Do u winter there....weather in Medellin and Manizales and Armenia is eternal spring
I liked the cold of Bogota personally ....l
Usually thru the winter. We have a 3/2 condo in Manizales but visit all over the country. Had a finca down in the valley but sold it a few yrs ago. Had a beautiful condo in Medellin but decided to it.
To me Bogota is too cold...my SIL lives in the Santa Barbara area of the city.
obviously they couldn't with their own resources. But, if they are harboring Colombian druggies with lots of dough, are friends with Iran who always has a few bucks for fellow terror types, are friendly with the chicoms, ruskies and other lower life forms most anything is possible.
Fascinating.....are you or your wife Colombian?
