Newt Gingrich: House Republicans and 2020 -- Retirements really mean THIS (not what you think)
Fox News ^ | September 20, 2019 | Newt Gingrich

Posted on 09/20/2019 2:02:54 PM PDT by jazusamo

It has been amazing to watch the national media’s coverage of the 2020 congressional elections so far.

Virtually all the coverage has contained the same message: Republicans are retiring in droves, and this must mean 2020 will be a tough election for the GOP.

Headlines, such as CNN’s “Here's why members of the House GOP keep abandoning ship” and USA Today’s “More than a dozen Republicans are leaving Congress. Here are the lawmakers who aren't running again in 2020” are prefect examples of the national media narrative.

The problem with this narrative is it’s misleading and incomplete.

What the trivia-focused, national media doesn’t seem to understand is that members of Congress are supposed to retire. And there is a large, diverse, exciting crop of smart Republican candidates throughout the country, who are seeking to bring new blood to Congress.

Republicans like to hear new ideas from new people. Republicans like revolutions and change. That’s the reason our leadership has term limits and the average age of Republican members of elected leadership is 18 years younger than Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic leadership (53 vs 71). It’s why the average age of Republican ranking members in House committees is 60, versus 67 for the Democratic chairpersons.

Consider this when you think about the images that the national media uses when it describes the parties in Congress. According to the media, the Democrats are all young, fresh-faced, idealistic members, while Republicans are all old members, who have served for eons.

I spent a good part of last week in Washington meeting with the various Republican committees – and briefly with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. He was actually the one who got me thinking about this column. When I asked him about the most recent spate of retirements, he told me...

“there is a large, diverse, exciting crop of smart Republican candidates throughout the country, who are seeking to bring new blood to Congress. “

This is the important part.

Just everyone needs to make sure to get out and VOTE so we can have a R majority.

Retire or be brought up on charges... The Reps are retiring , the Rats will be tried... we saw the same thing last election where the Rats ran a huge number of “ex” CIA operatives as their candidates to bolster the deepstate coalition in the house. This will play out with a drip drip over the next year .

Sometimes, I think we should just go ahead and form a “Conservative” party, leaving behind the rump RINOs. It would be an electoral blowout, for a short while, but highly clarifying and certainly satisfying.

But, the blowout part would suck.

;-)

“we should just go ahead and form a “Conservative” party”

There is a Conservative Party already. At least there have been candidates from the Conservative Party on my ballots for as long as I can remember. (Checking Internet, it was formed almost 200 years ago.)

Actual conservative voters in the GOP or Independent Parties need to move our status over there — and then kick major butt!

I see it as a good thing.....since in case you missed it, there was a uprising in 2016, in the Republican party.

Constituents are no longer interested in supporting the left leaning, semi-Democrat, do nothing good, RINOS.........and I'm glad they are getting the message to either get with the program, or get the hang out of Washington.

With the Socialists openly promising the destruction of America, as we know it.......it's time to get rid of the limp wristed Rinos, for the fight ahead. We need young, fresh faces, who are ready to do the job..........

I've been watching Wesley Hunt, here in Texas, since April....and Anna Paulina Luna, trying for Crist's position in Florida, is pretty interesting, too.

This should be a huge Trump tidal wave, brining in a GOP House and more seats in the Senate.

I am not trying to egg you into a altercation, but ... To be honest as far as I can recall the last time we had an "R" majority that did anything was back when Newt was speaker.

Since then the GOP has proved to be incapable of setting the agenda.

Wish it weren't so but it is.

It is depressing that the Pennsylvania Republican Party is allowing Brian Fitzpatrick to represent us in the eastern part of three counties.
This squish has signed on to numerous Democratic platform issues.
He has never supported President Trump’s economic advances, job incentives, immigration laws and policies, etc.
He is not the person to represent us and he will not get that vote from me.

I agree, we’re not going to get new conservative blood in there if there’s no retirements.

Could you imagine those two darlings facing off against black commies like Sheila Jackson Lee?

There wouldn’t be a grease spot left on the House floor.

God bless the black conservatives — the only hope for our African American fellow citizens.

Exactly the deep State operatives are running. I’m sure they have been running for years though. I can easily see deep State at work within the Gop as they push women and minority candidates in order to get away from conservative white males. Our 2 party system is easily corrupted and controlled. Jefferson warned what the 2 party system would possible do to the country. Horrible system of governing.

Right you are. And it has to do with leadership. Newt in his early days was a committed conservative and provided bold leadership. Since then, the Republican house leaders have been worthless: Boehner and Ryan. I don’t know how McCarthy will turn out, but so far I’m none too impressed. (And I don’t have any idea how Livingston would have turned out if he hadn’t been taken out by the infidelity charges.)

With Boehner and Ryan, the House Republicans were like a rudderless ship, except when the Chamber of Corruption would act as the rudder.

The Republicans, with a few exceptions, rarely fail to disappoint.

Some people retire from congress because they are actually able to get a better paying gig outside of government. Probably more so for Rs than Ds.
