Kirk, the best brother ever, R.I.P.
wnd.com ^ | 9/19/2019 | Larry Elder

Posted on 09/19/2019 8:46:45 AM PDT by rktman

My brother Kirk Randolph Elder died suddenly and unexpectedly 16 days before his 70th birthday. He and Tresta, his wife of 41 years, had planned a trip to Hawaii, where they were going to celebrate Kirk’s birthday.

Kirk was a retired supervisor at an oil refinery, and we were extremely close. He started coming on my radio show about four years ago, reluctantly at first. We’d discuss politics, culture and sports. A registered Democrat, he and I often disagreed. Yet, week after week, I received letters from listeners who called him their “favorite Democrat.” Kirk always showed respect for Republicans – and, yes, even Trump supporters – with whom he differed on policy but whose motives he never maligned.

A Vietnam-era vet, Kirk enlisted in the Navy. A few years ago, I introduced Kirk to Joseph, a Marine vet who served in Iraq and is now a cop with the Los Angeles Police Department. Hearing of Kirk’s death, Joseph wrote: “Kirk enlisted when enlisting was not popular. Your brother was a petty officer third class, E-4, the equivalent rank of a corporal noncommissioned officer in the Marine Corps. That’s the rank I achieved, but he did it in a shorter period of time. It’s the first enlisted rank of command and control of others. To achieve this rank in the Navy, he had to be a leader. He also received a National Defense Service Medal.”

That’s terrible. Larry would talk to Kirk once a week on his radio show.

He used to have his mother & father on his show regularly too.

This is very sad and unexpected.

I liked listening to the Friday shows, last hour, with his brother Kirk.

It’s hard when a sibling who loves you dies. I know how that feels. My condolences, Mr. Elder. I’m sure he’s gone to a better place.

WARNING! I clicked on the website to read the article & got a huge red warning screen & the usual “call this number” to resolve, etc. Mouse wouldn’t work, pretty much locked up everything. Powered off the laptop & now it will not power back up - dead as can be.

I have access to another laptop (obviously), but now have to figure out what to do with the “dead” one. I do run a firewall & anti-virus.

I, too, would be sure to tune in on Friday when Kirk was on. That made it a little harder when I tuned in last Friday and there was a substitute host....and I quickly found out why.

I loved how Larry would call his mom for her latest movie review and Kirk kinda made up for her loss after she passed.

So let me tell you what happened not long ago that made me laugh so hard I almost fainted.

It was a Friday Phone-A-Bro. (for those that don’t know, it was a little game where Larry would play a clip from his show for that week and Kirk and a caller would compete to see who could identify the speaker)

So on this night before the start of the game, Larry said, “Kirk...can you identify this speaker?”

He then played a spot of someone saying “Whoa!”. Now this was Kirk himself which 99% of Larry’s listeners would know because he often used that “Whoa!” when he was commenting on something stupid a newsmaker would say. If I found myself in an airport in Bangkok and heard that “Whoa!”, I would have turned around looking for Kirk.

Anyway, Kirk didn’t have a clue as to the identity of who said “Whoa!”. He really didn’t.

He felt embarrassed for not knowing it because Larry kept pressing him on it. So he started making excuses like, “Maybe that was the day I went to the dentist and had to miss your show”. He didn’t want to hurt Larry’s feelings that he could actually miss one of his shows.

Fridays won’t the same. RIP, Kirk.

WOW! I had one of those last week and it stayed up so I did a hard kill(just powered it off with the switch)on the computer and it came back up. Ran my usual daily scans after I restarted it and nothing was found. Usually WND is pretty reliable. But it was the same thing you described. Mouse wouldn’t work and alt-ctr-delete didn’t do anything so, power switch. Sorry. Guess my default when I get one again will be to go straight to the power switch.

I killed it with the power switch too since I couldn’t do anything else. Guess I got lucky - laptop finally powered back up ... yay!!

Ran every scan I had and nothing came up, so that’s good for starters! Haven’t been back on my browser yet .... may uninstall & then install it back. I need to do a little research first - my initial searches showed folks having trouble getting rid of that screen, kept coming back.

Glad your problem resolved & I think I’m on the way to getting mine cleaned up & going. Fortunately, I do run backups & had a recent one, so that wasn’t a concern if the laptop was truly dead.

Yeah, after your post I shut down my browser and ran all my scans again just to be on the safe side. Nothing other than the usual cookies and garbage. No malware noted. Hopefully just a random attack.

My younger brother was also named Kirk and he died much too young.

Condolences to Larry, one of my favorites.
