I live in exactly the right location to see the outcome of a grand experiment. The pilot Walmart Supercenter is located in Dallas, Georgia. So am I.
On Friday the 13th, the CEO of Walmart cut the ribbon at the grand opening. Sadly, I only learned about this grand opening on the morning of September 14. There had been no publicity while the store was being remodeled over the last 12 months.
So, what you are about to read is based on original research conducted on the cheap on the afternoon of September 14.
1. A Right-Hand Turn
My house is about 60 seconds from the highway.
If I turn to the right and drive approximately 1.7 miles, I arrive at the Walmart Supercenter.
I walked into this Supercenter through a new wing: Walmart Health. There, I found a health care delivery system that is far more comprehensive than the standard walk-in clinics that have sprung up in America's mini-malls. Here is what is available.
- Primary care
- Labs & x-rays
- Health screening
- Fitness & nutrition
- Health insurance education & enrollment
I have seen it. I am impressed.
Here is Walmart's press release.
The Walmart Health center will offer low, transparent pricing for key health services to provide great care at a great value, regardless of insurance coverage. Customers will be notified on the estimated cost of their visit when they book their appointment.
The Walmart Health center will be operated by qualified medical professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, behavioral health providers, and optometrists. Walmart Care Hosts and Community Health Workers onsite will help customers navigate their visit, understand resources and be a familiar presence for regular visits.

I get insulin at WalMart for $25 - it’s $150+ anywhere else you try and buy it.

I think this is great. Realistic pricing.
Would be great if they got into the higher end tooth issues.
Those prices are BRUTAL.
Thanks aquila48. As a sidebar, I got my previous flu shot at Walmart in Grand Haven Michigan, and got this year's flu shot at a Sam's Club quite close to where I live. Zero charge each time, little waiting, basically no paperwork.
Capitalism setting its sights on another problem.
Walmart is known for getting employees hurt with much lifting too many days in a week and repetitive stress injuries then struggling against allowing claims to be paid. Employees have also had difficulty getting costs covered after falls from heights. How much do you trust Walmart?
higher end? tooth, teeth, what the hell are they?
Another pattern seen with Walmart is that of introducing drugs at lower prices than small franchise drug stores then hiking prices again after small competitors are out of business.
i wonder if they get subsidized and that’s why they can have patient pay such little amount?
I really doubt that is all they make off those services.
I went to a dentist located at a walmart one time and they just wanted to tell me they couldn’t give me the low price that was listed and quoted to me over the phone when i set up appt.
I wrote that badly.
I would like to see cheaper root canals and bridges.
They are brutally expensive.
I’m not sure, I haven’t been to Walmart since like forever. I didn’t see any employees any where
I’ve known some employees and have read about some cases.
They're what I used to have before I sprang for a $7k set of dentures. It took double-billing and a $1500 co-pay, but at least I got ten-year, no fault replacement coverage and unlimited follow-up visits out of the deal.
One thing I like about Kroger is, they always got these girls wondering around with these carts shopping for 6 people or whatever but ask them where is this or that and they point you right there.
do they slip out or drop away like Joe’s
I expect them to get into mortgages soon.
The uppers are fine. Good suction. The lowers will bounce around like hell if you forget the Fixodent and try to speak coherently.
