The Trump administration is poised to revoke California's authority to set auto mileage standards, asserting that only the federal government has the power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and fuel economy. Conservative and free-market groups have been asked to attend a formal announcement of the rollback set for Wednesday afternoon at Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Washington.
Gloria Bergquist, spokeswoman for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, said Tuesday that her group was among those invited to the event featuring EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
The move comes after the Justice Department recently opened an antitrust investigation into a deal between California and four automakers for tougher pollution and related mileage requirements than those sought by President Donald Trump. Trump also has sought to relax Obama-era federal mileage standards nationwide, weakening a key effort by his Democratic predecessor to slow climate change.
The White House declined to comment Tuesday, referring questions to EPA. EPA's press office did not respond to a phone message and email seeking comment.
But EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler told the National Automobile Dealers Association on Tuesday that the Trump administration would move "in the very near future" to take steps toward establishing one nationwide set of fuel-economy standard

Exactly! No state,or group of states, should have any say when it comes to things like emissions or firearms.Any such regulations should come from DC and then have their Constitutionality confirmed,or knocked down,by the courts.
DAMN...THERE GOES CALIFORNIA!!!
Oh wait....
Best President EVER ! I truly love this guy.
I've got a great idea for that. The fuel-economy standard should be . . . whatever the hell the customer thinks he can afford, and wants it to be. With the automaker as the exclusive arbiter of whatever the hell he feels like building.
Sound refreshing--like, not a police state run by dorks?
Long time ago, you searched out a "49 state" model for good reason.
Actually, I can see that a state can regulate emissions for its own state. Automobiles and other vehicles are not constitutionally protected.
Firearms? A constitutionally protected right? Never.
Good. Suckafornia has consistently kept nevadas gas prices nearly double the rest of the country because of their stupid rules based on global hoaxing
Excellent Ca never should been given this. Because of their market size they have bullied the entire country because no major car maker can make a red state version and a blue state of their car lines .This is winning.

FIRST SENTENCE: “The Trump administration is poised to revoke California’s authority to set auto mileage standards”
So which is it? And this is what’s become of the media.
Except, what happens when you drive from one state to another? Does that mean your car will be forbidden in certain states, or that you risk a traffic stop once you cross the border.
True, the Constitution doesn't mention cars, but practicality dictates that emission regulation be something done strictly at the federal level.

Although, poorly written, both sentences convey the same meaning.
That rumble you hear is not the San Andreas Fault moving.....
That state making their own regulations BS is why insurance is so freaking high.
Insurance companies cannot cross state lines and have to finely detail policies and even minute wording and font sizes in all documentation to meet each state’s “standards”
In addition, the idiot state insurance commissions change their regulations, sometimes on a monthly basis. A big reason why most insurance companies stopped selling in many states.
States should not be allowed to restrain trade and dictate product specifications that cross state lines.
It does seem like a good case could be made that states setting their own requirements on automobiles can place an undue burden on interstate commerce.
GO TRUMP GO!
About time to smack down individual states, and cities, imposing their own immigration laws, as well.
Why haven’t all these so called “sanctuaries” been held to the same standard?
If California doesn’t like it, it must be good.
CARB can suck it.
I’m not sure what NOx, CO, and HC’s have to do with automobile mileage, but I guess I’m missing something.
