Apprente, based in Silicon Valley, has developed a tech to automate voice orders supporting many languages and accents
McDonald’s Corporation has entered an agreement to buy Israeli-founded, Silicon Valley based startup Apprente, “a leader in the field of conversational voice-based technology,” the fast food giant said in a statement Tuesday.
The technology will allow for “faster and simpler and more accurate ordering” through speech at McDonald’s drive-thru stations, the statement said. According to the deal, Apprente’s employees will become part of the US firm’s global technology team. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Apprente team – made up of workers with PhDs in machine learning and computational linguistics – will also form the base of a new, internal team at McDonald’s called McD Tech Labs, that will work closely with the firm’s Innovation Center just outside Chicago. The skills of both teams will help McDonald’s meet the changing needs of customers, the statement said.

I avoid their kiosks like the pla...er...like progressives, and would avoid any voice recognition for drive thrus.
Sorry, but any variations on pre-programmed items are difficult enough to get through a person, let alone something with the limited understanding of an app.

They bought the company so when it really works well it will be a competitive advantage for McD.
Haven’t looked at apps or kiosks lately, have you?
Some of them allow you to specify what condiments you want on it, how much, etc. Some even let you specify how you want your burger cooked.
In fact, it’s *way* easier to get custom food changes made on an app or a kiosk in some cases than it is to get it through the illegal alien or stoner kid attending the cash register.

SoCal area, Los Angeles metro, Spanish is needed to get an accurate order..True of ALL fast food joints, not McD’s. With the exception of Chck-fil-a. The rest rely on cheap, illegal labor. Ju wan fries. Ketcha? Pathetic.
