U.S.A. -(Ammoland.com)- US News and World Report rates the states for public safety. The rating takes both property crime and violent crime into account. The ratings use the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) data from 2017 for the article this year, as the latest data available.
The top three states for public safety this year are Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. All three are Constitutional Carry states, which means no permit is required to carry a loaded handgun in most public places, openly, or concealed. That was the state of the law in the nation when the Constitution was ratified on 4 March, 1789. Constitutional carry existed in all states for the first four decades of the Republic. Then states and the courts started chipping away at the Second Amendment.
Vermont has always been a Constitutional Carry state. No permit has been required to carry handguns there since the Constitution was ratified.
Maine became a Constitutional Carry state in 2015. At the time, those opposed claimed that Constitutional Carry would increase street violence. From pressherald.com:
Tom Franklin, president of Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence, predicted that passage will lead to more street violence and deaths. The group works to prevent gun violence through gun safety and education.
I believe this bill reflects the current state of dysfunction in Augusta, Franklin said Monday night during a telephone interview. It does not reflect the wishes of Maine people.
He said his group is deeply concerned about allowing people to carry handguns without a permit.

Prior to the November 2018 election, Maine had the most conservative governor in the country....Paul LePage.
He was term-limited and could not run in 2018. He can run again in 2022 and he said he will. People are already sending money.
Janet Mills, Maine’s RAT attorney general, ran for governor in 2018 and, unfortunately, won. She is a moonbat.
The RATS in the Maine House and Maine Senate introduced twelve bills hostile to the Second Amendment in the last legislative session. As far as I know, they all failed.
Maine’s Second Congressional District.....80% of the state....is more conservative than the first district, in the southeast corner.
Candidate Trump carried the Second District by 10 points in 2016 and received one electoral vote as a result.
From the Google:
The racial makeup of New Hampshire as of the 2010 Census was:
White: 93.9% (92.3% non-Hispanic)
Black or African American: 1.1%
American Indian and Alaska Native: 0.2%
Asian: 2.2%
Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander: approx. 0.0%
Other race: 0.9%
Two or more races: 1.6%
When I moved here to NH in 1985 the largest non white was Asian. They owned all the Chinese restaurants around here. It is now Hispanic or Brazilian. This is because our proximity to Boston, MA.
VT and Maine are even more White than NH, except for Lewiston, ME where there is apparently a Somalia population.
They all have small cities..and a white population...
Be careful about accepting these rankings. The FBI bases its information on VOLUNTARY submission of statistics by state and city law enforcement.
Constitutional Carry... The ONLY way to go..
VT is generally very rural.
However, southern NH and Southern ME are not.
75%(or more) of the NH population lives within 20 miles of the Mass border. Many NH citizens live in NH and work in Mass. Boston is only 55 miles away from Nashua. Very few people live in the northern part of the state.
Maine is similar in that most of the people live from Portland down to the NH border within 10 miles of the Atlantic Ocean. NOBODY, I mean NOBODY lives in northern Maine.
So, it is very rural in some parts and crowded in others. In that way it is similar to most other states in the union.
It is hard to STAY on welfare here in NH. It is much easier to get on it in Mass. Therefore, the people that want to take advantage of the government handouts stay in Mass.
IF they want to work hard, open a business, get ahead, they eventually move to NH.
The Hispanics I have met in my daily travels here in NH are all hard working forks. They work in, or own restaurants. They do landscaping, roofing, concrete work, tiling, and generally hard manual labor jobs. They also work at fast food establishments.
At the ski areas like Bretton Woods they bring in workers from Brazil during the winter because they are in such a rural area. There is a shortage of seasonal workers in that area.
I am not sure about ME or VT.
Maine is importing lots of Somalis. That should cheer him up.
Anything to Mark Steyn’s description of VT as a land of ski resorts surrounded by an opioid wasteland?
No ferals want to live in state where the winters are a full 6 months long, the shoulder seasons a mud, and if summer falls on a weekend we have a picnic. Thus the reason I still live here in spite of the tax burden and the commies in the state house.
Not sure about VT.
However, NH has had a much higher opioid percentage than other places in the country. Mostly, because the north side of Boston was where the whole OXY craze started.
I personally know of three people including two I worked with here in Nashua that were addicted to OXY and shot heroin. One is now dead from a heroin overdose. All three were white and came from middle to upper middle class families. They all got into drugs in their teens or twenties.
However, this area(New England) has never had the Meth problem that is so big out west or in Appalachia.
One thing I will state is that a lot of the people involved in the sale and distribution of Heroin are heavily Hispanic. Whenever, you see arrests here in NH. They are all Hispanics from the city of Manchester or from the cities in Mass(Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Fitchburg, Worchester, Springfield) These are where the drugs come through.
Except for the RINO Governor MI had the whole state ruled by conservatives.
State House and Senate, Sec of State, AG, (RINO) Governor, and the State supreme courts.
Thanks to liberal puke Rick Snyder (rino MI) the demonrats now have Gov, Sec of state, and AG.
MI now has a rabid barking moonbat governor too.
“NOBODY, I mean NOBODY lives in northern Maine.”
Just black flies, skeeters, deer flies, horse flies, and ticks.
you forgot:
The Moose
The Moose
Was that the Møøse that bit my sister?
Yup, the moose.
Michigan has some moose but mostly wolves, lots and lots of wolves.
Thanks for the reply. I live in Maine, so I am aware of both our population densities and where they are. I am discouraged by a lot of the implied racism that is being displayed on this site of late. Our state has all the same issues as the other states even though it is 90%+ white. Ignorance knows no race
” I am discouraged by a lot of the implied racism that is being displayed on this site of late.”
Who is implying racism here? Liberals?
