“The elites are in revolt against the people”, as someone has said.

Boris has to stiffen his spine and refuse to have the bill signed by the Queen. The Parliament will be going into recess on Monday and all Bills will be dead.

The Queen signs bills?

What a joke of a country.

Here is what I am hearing on other sites:

Parliament could be prorogued as early as Monday, based on the royal proclamation issued last month. If the rebel legislation has not been passed by the time of prorogation, it is automatically wiped out.
Parliament will not sit again until October 14, after the party conferences.

If Parliament is suspended next week as planned, rebel MPs cannot advance their plot any further for five weeks.
If their Bill has failed or is still pending, it will ‘die’ and have to be started again after the prorogation.
In the meantime, Mr Johnson will push for a deal from fellow European leaders in the hope of removing the backstop from the withdrawal deal negotiated by Theresa May.
MPs will then reconvene on October 14. First there will be a Queen’s Speech and ceremonial State Opening of Parliament.
Rebel MPs could make a second attempt to force a delay but their time would be extremely limited and there would be no more time to schedule an election before October 31.

Brexiteer lords are going to do anything they can to hold up the remainer bill.

Right, MPs have rejected a GE. De facto, they approve of the current Government. Boris will, I think, now not recommend to the Queen any legislation passed by the House he does not like (i.e. The further delay Bill). No Royal Assent, no Law.
A reminder that Blair did this kind of block three times.
The only way to remove the PM’s block is a VoNC, which can basically be asked for at any time.
I’m sure Boris and the Moggster (Lord President of Privy Council) will remind the Queen that the House can pass a VoNC any time they like if they don’t like his block. This will result in the GE Boris has asked for anyway.

The opposition are stuffed. The Remainers are stuffed. The EU is stuffed.

Several of those booted out of the Tory Party looked quite shocked - they are idiots. Boris needed a minority to make his point about the VoNC valid.

Constitutional Law detail here (bottom half):
https://ukconstitutionallaw.org/2019/01/22/robert-craig-could-the-government-advise-the-queen-to-refuse-royal-assent-to-a-backbench-bill/

Furthermore, if Boris simply doesn’t recommend the further delay Bill to the Queen and Sep 10th rolls along, the House is prorogued, and when they come back a VoNC will be too late to have a GE before Hallowe’en anyway.

Game, Set, Match to Brexit.

This. The Queen may support him. She has respect for a 52-48 decision that she knows form the core of support for the royals.

Can you explain for us American commoners how the British people have any chance at self-governance in this obviously hostile environment? What options, tactics do they have going forward?

What happens if EU turns around and declared publicly - “well, we will extend the deadline for Brexit negotiations until 2020?”

Ie) EU simply allow all present agreements continue as present. Flow of goods, etc... continues as normal - thus giving time advantage to the remainers in UK Parliament and Government.

While the Oct. 31 deadline is a British deadline, a hung parliament and frozen government may simply ignore it, and remainers will take the short-term life line.

Sure hope you’re right that Boris has a chance. Otherwise from this side of the pond it looks like an argument over chairs on the tilting deck of the Titanic.

But it sounds like the Queen is on his side if only for the self interest of the Royals.

Otherwise, Britain is done and Sharia has arrived.

The Tory MP that defected to the Liberal Democrats incredibly denounced “English nationalism”. This has always been a struggle between the nationalists and the globalists. IMHO England has ignored its heritage and the globalists, buoyed by massive immigration, have won. Perhaps not this current battle but they will dominate the future. Britain has been transformed and is finished as most Americans once knew it. Time for America, while there still is an American nation, to get out of NATO. The American people should not be defending the EU. The expense and sacrifice does nothing to enhance the security of the American people. However unless our own borders are controlled , soon the globalists will do to America what they have done to Britain. Democratic politicians, including all their Presidential candidates already echo that renegade MP.

Do you really believe the invasion of Britain has something to do with EU?

I’m glad someone here understands UK politics and how they do things. I sure don’t. All very confusing to me.

The queen can veto bills and she has done so before. The queen has to sign every bill for it to become law. A joke? I don’t know. They have had a monarchy for about 1,000 years and as you know, the sun never set on its empire. Not too shabby of a history. It has worked for them. She is not just merely head of state, the monarchy does have a purpose and power, although most of the power is not exercised.

If either the Lords or Johnson can kill the remainer bill as the two comments I quoted discuss then Johnson can as PM take the UK out on Oct. 31 and there will be nothing the EU or Parliament can do about it.

Basically the Brexit Lords or Johnson can kill the remainer bill if they want to and the remainers won’t be able to stop Brexit on Oct. 31.
