Google's video site YouTube has been fined $170 million to settle allegations it collected children's personal data without their parents' consent.
The Federal Trade Commission fined Google $136 million and the company will pay an additional $34 million to New York state to resolve similar allegations.
The fine is the largest the agency has yet leveled against Google, although it is tiny compared to the $5 billion fine the FTC imposed against Facebook this year for privacy violations.
The FTC has been investigating YouTube for the way it handles the data of kids under the age of 13. Young children are protected by a federal law that requires parental consent before companies can collect and share their personal information.

Who gets the $$$$$$$? Not the kids.
They need to be fined for censorship and demonitizing conservatives. And not millions. Billions.
Perhaps the videos of parents watching their kids run around in PJ Masks costumes will become less prolific. :-)
They have demonetized so much. I used to love the sometimes quirky suggestions. Even the less than conservative channels, or even the non political channels, I enjoyed the differing points of view or the random subject from dozens and dozens of suggested sources. Now it is all gone. Literally every single suggested video is now some f&$%# clip from fox news. I refuse to watch corporate news since the early 2000s.
It saddens me that it is gone
if the fine had been $170 billion, this might have made a difference.
