Trump Kills White House Press Briefing, 50 Years After It Was Born
The Washington Examiner ^ | 09/04/19 | Rob Crilly

The White House briefing room has many functions: a storage space for tripods and camera gear, a backdrop for visitor photos, a temporary workspace for journalists without a desk.

What it is not, at least since March 11, is a venue for President Trump’s press secretary to brief reporters on administration policies.

Next week will mark six months since the last White House “daily” briefing, another erosion of transparency and democracy under Trump or a sad indictment of the “fake news” media’s incivility, depending on your view.

"The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the 'podium' much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press,” is how Trump defended the scarcity of briefings earlier this year. “I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway!"

The number of briefings dwindled to about one a month at the end of 2018. Then they stopped altogether. The most recent came on March 11; then-White House press secretary Sarah Sanders took to the podium for 14 minutes.

They have not been pronounced dead officially. But there is no prospect of their return.

“President Trump communicates with the American people more than any president in history,” said Stephanie Grisham, who replaced Sanders in July. “The fact that the White House press corps can no longer grandstand on TV is of no concern to us.
It marks an indefinite hiatus for a ritual with its roots in the 19th century, when President Grover Cleveland’s private secretary Daniel Lamont sent aides to answer reporters’ questions. The press briefings as Americans, and the world, have come to know them can be dated to 1969, when President Richard Nixon remove

The so-called “news” media brought this upon itself by being open and notorious shills for the Democrat Party, as well as other anti-American influences.

“another erosion of transparency and democracy under Trump “

He talks to reporters almost every time he leaves the White House. More fake news.

Nothing lasts forever, especially in the realm of politics and money. What was reasonable 50 years ago, can easily decay into corruption. This is true with all human institutions and constructs.

From a larger picture, this was the beauty of the US Constitution. Local government, allowing for constant societal adjustment, rather than oppressive top-down institutions that try to maintain an absurd status quo, which then collapse violently.

Let them get their news from Twitter, just like the rest of us do. President Trump uses the media like my grandma used a wet dishrag.

Trump travels around the country addressing the citizenry directly at huge rallies.

He tweets out to any of the citizenry who so desire directly also.

The obsolete media are not needed as intermediaries.

Absolutely, without a doubt. And Trump is bold enough to provide the necessary changes and increasing his availability at the same time - win-win for Trump and America, lose-lose for the activist media and the dems.

Let’s be clear. The on-camera antics of the press killed the briefings. All Trump did was bury an already dead animal.

I would say the press acts like they were raised in a kennel but kennel dogs behave better.

Good for Trump for getting rid of this.

Trump has done more q+a’s when he is sitting in the Oval Office or outside than Obama did.

Winning!

The press briefings as Americans, and the world, have come to know them can be dated to 1969, when President Richard Nixon removed the indoor swimming pool installed by Franklin Roosevelt and replaced it with the briefing room.

President Trump should bring back the pool, then push them in. If the press pool wants in, well there you go. Win win.

Notice how that CNN fruitcake is zero'd from the news, thankfully. I can't even think of his name now, how nice.

Yesterday I read that Judge Contreras (I assume of FISA fame) ordered that the Playboy reporter that got into it with Gorka must have his press pass reinstated.

Sure, but has President Trump held a press conference at an elementary school yet?
