Kroger joins Walmart in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in stores

Kroger on Tuesday followed Walmart in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in any of its stores, in states where “open carry” is allowed, unless they are authorized law enforcement officers.

The announced changes come amid a wave of deadly shootings in the U.S., including two at Walmart stores this summer.

Both companies are also calling on the government to strengthen background checks.

“Kroger is respectfully asking that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores, other than authorized law enforcement officers,” Jessica Adelman, group vice president of corporate affairs, said in an emailed statement. “We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been found to pose a risk for violence.”

Along with their eco-nut policy of soon banning all disposable plastic grocery bags

Aside from Walmart and a couple of mom and pop meat markets, Kroger has a monopoly in my area since marsh went under.

Krogers HAS been great for letting one inspect the back of their shelves, since they are always sold out of everything

if you have a Kroger Plus card, tell them to check and see just how much you spend there before they kick you out. probably won’t work because it is a corporation but it can’t hurt to try. LOL

So concealed carry is ok, right?

Serious question.

"..I’ll open carry anyway. What can they do?.."

As for me, when I'm on someone else's property I will respect their wishes. If that means concealed, that's fine. My preference anyways.

I look at open carry as attention-whoring. But that's just my opinion and my AO is the only place that matters. YMMV.. d:^)

Should be. Even though Idaho is an open-carry state I prefer concealed carry in order to preserve the element of SURPRISE!

I’ll open carry anyway. What can they do?

The answer? They'll do NOTHING.

Kroger HATES to loose a customer for ANY reason.

I believe this is a marketing attempt designed to appease.

I say that because they are "politely" requesting that you do not open carry. They will do NOTHING to enforce it.

They need all the consumer dollars they can get to keep their stock from tanking.

I saw a feller yesterday at local Walmart open carrying a semi-auto handgun with two spare mags. I thought “If somebody starts shooting and they get him I’ll be right there to collect his gun and all that ammo to fight back.” After I emptied my LCR that is...

What is plainly going on is that Libs are whining that the sight of the guns scares them. And, then some cops probably chime in “we can’t tell who’s who. And spineless Walmart owners and execs CAVE.

Both of these dynamics remind me of a really good looking chick I was dating once who had just broke up with her boyfriend. There was some conversation between us that he was kinda crazy and she said...……..”well, he’ll just have to deal with it”.

So, what’s wrong in this instance of just telling the whiny libs and spineless Wal Mart Execs and Cops...……..”hey guys, just deal with it”!

Yeah....because it’s ALWAYS the open carry folks who cause all of the gun violence/mass shootings.

Geez. How much more absurd can these idiot retailer get?

Why not just put a huge banner on their storefront telling law abiding citizens, who value their rights, DO NOT SHOP HERE!!?

Yes, make sure that a potential mass shooter knows for certain that no one in the store will be firing back at him. Way to go-make your stores preferred targets for mass murderers 👍

“I’ll open carry anyway. What can they do?”

They can ask you to leave. If you refuse, legally you are trespassing and can be arrested. Open carry makes many people nervous these days. I carry concealed. Never a problem.

Yes. Further they will most likely never know. And they have zero right to search you so unless you have to save your life, they will be happy to believe the world is free of guns and bad people, and full of unicorns and leprechaun farts.
