In events marking 80 years since Nazi invasion of Poland that started the war, genocide of Jews was swallowed up like it never happened.
The right-wing nationalist government in Poland can celebrate a great victory. In the long war over the “culture of memory,” an objective it set for itself upon coming to power in 2015, the last bastion was conquered yesterday. After Israel’s recognition last year of the Polish narrative – which emphasizes the suffering of the Polish nation and minimizes its part in causing suffering to another nation – now Germany and the United States have also been convinced of the justice of the Polish claim.
In a series of ceremonies and assemblies held yesterday in Poland on the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s invasion and the beginning of World War II, all the speakers – from Polish President Andrzej Duda, to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence – mentioned the Polish victims and Polish suffering.
Members of the Polish nation were described as heroes and freedom fighters, who risked their lives for the entire European continent, and paid the highest price in the war against the Germans: Their country ceased to exist as an independent entity, their cities were destroyed and three million of their people – the Christians – paid with their lives.
The German president went even further and apologized to the Poles for the crimes perpetrated by the Germans against their people and on their soil, and paid respect to the “Polish families” who paid the highest price and even fought courageously against the German occupier. The U.S. vice president said that Poland is a “nation of heroes” and praised its people as “freedom fighters.”

I have never understood sticking the holocaust on the Poles.
Nice try Haaretz - the President spoke of Poles as both gentiles and Jews.
He spoke of 6 million Poles being killed in the war - 3 million Jewish Poles and 3 million gentile Poles — among the later you also had German-origin Poles and Tatar-origin Poles.
The Germans and the Russians murdered millions of Poles - the Germans leading the way, but the Russians had time not only from 1939 with Katyn etc. but also with their continuous occupation until 1989.
The holocaust, the murder of 6 million Jews by the Germans was meticulous planned and executed by the German Nazis.
My opinion on why Poles were blamed was:
1. After the war, Poland was given by the USA and the UK to Stalin and became the “enemy”, part of the Warsaw Pact
2. After the way western Germany was now the ally
3. So the enemy was demonized
4. in addition nearly all the extermination camps were on what was BEFORE the war Polish territory — no one seems to mention that Poland officially did not exist between 1939 and 1945 - the Germans officially proclaimed it not to exist, with the western part of it being directly absorbed into Germany, the central part of it being “the german general governate” meaning a place being prepared for being absorbed into Germany and the eastern part given to the USSR (later put into the General governate after the two monsters fell out.
5. Few seem to ask WHY were there 3 million Jews, nearly 40% of World Jewry in Poland? Was it because of Polish tolerance before the polish partitions (Poland didn’t exist from 1791 to 1919)
6. Few seem to also realize that if a person was found helping a Jew (even given them water) in France, they would be fined, but in Poland they would lose not only their own life but their family’s lives as well.
7. Few seem to realize that the Polish gentiles were also slated for extermination by the Germans.
it’s deflecting blame by blaming the Polish nation for the holocaust - remember that Jews were also part of the Polish nation (Julian Tuwim etc. etc.)
This fellow did not mention , even once, that Poland was invaded by the Nazi’s and the Soviets . Did not mention the decades of ruthless Soviet control after the war . At the same time he goes on about Jewish suffering being ignored it’s as if the Soviet Union never existed.
The Russians and Chinese lost far more people in WWII than any other countries, so which did the Poles fail to mention?

Excellent point ! Marie Curie named the element 'Polonium' to draw attention to Poland no longer on the map. If not for Poland Europe may have fallen to Islam all the way back in 1683!
If you rule them out, then fine, the Poles failed to mention the Chinese, a major gaffe.
Did they also condemn what the Russians did to the Poles during and after the war? Starting with the Von Ribbentrop/ Molotov pact that split Poland in 2.

And remember they have been staunch allies and supporters of the USA since the American Revolution.
Something has changed at Haaretz, they often distort reality in reporting. Much like the globalist press.

Not to diminish in any way the Holocaust, but there is plenty of acknowledgment of that series of events on media. Poland was decimated during autumn of 1939. Anyone of significant political persuasion was exterminated. The army, very much outmatched, put up a valiant fight. More so, I think than France. And Poland never capitulated.
Funny how they don’t mention the Soviet invasion of Poland.
So the Jews are saying that they weren’t real Poles?
These statements seem to support Nazi propaganda.
