Liz is 53 years old and has 5 children. Has any of them served in Afghanistan or Iraq or anywhere else for that matter?
when the Taliban blew up the wedding in Kabul over the weekend
Yes, that was convenient
The United States presence was set up intrinsically with no way to win.
As I and many other veterans of middle east eastern wars pointed out at the time, you have zero chance of lasting change unless you go in there with the will to stamp out Sharia law - which in turn means execution of the enforcers of Sharia law.
Otherwise, the groundwork for resetting the place back to what was there before we went in is set, and all the mullahs have to do to restore their power is to slaughter a few of the people who left the Muslim faith. For over a thousand years that is what the Imams have done and it has worked one hundred percent of the time.
Were we ever willing to go that far?
Then why be there at all?
We lost the war in Afghanistan the day OBL crossed into Pakistan, in December 2001.
Every single penny and every single drop of blood since then has been wasted.
These coincidences are becoming far too predictable.
As I posted in October 2001, any response that did not involve an 80-division expeditionary force and that did not end with American governors in Riyadh and Islamabad was going to be a defeat.
Instead, we fought the wrong guy with the wrong tools and lost invaluable men - for nothing.
Control Riyadh and Islamabad, and Baghdad and Kabul don’t matter.
Weve been there for 19 years this November!
And the Russians were there how long before us ?
There's no reason for us to get our best young people killed trying to keep muslims from killing each other.
NeoCons will fight their wars to the last American soldier. Everyone is expendable for their plans.
Hey, Liz ... why didn’t daddy tell us what victory would look like? It’s not too late, he can still tell us.
18 years of this is enough.
Because we've been sitting there, screwing around for well over a decade. True combat operations (you know, operations with a point) ended a LONG time ago.
The Taliban harbored Osama bin Laden and his men while they plotted their attacks on the United States.
We invaded their country and overthrew the long-established government in a few days, killing thousands of Taliban loyalists along the way. We also sent a small team of elite operators into Pakistan to kill Bin Laden about 8 years ago now.
What more would you have us do?
The Taliban has never publicly disavowed al-Qaeda.
Why would you expect them to?
An Islamic State suicide bomber blew himself up at a wedding reception in Kabul just this past weekend, killing dozens of people.
So? It's the Middle East. They're Muslims.
Agreeing to such a deal would not be ending a war, it would be losing it to al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the Islamic State.
This last sentence is very important. Liz is absolutely sure that we're headed to defeat, but notice that she doesn't even begin to approach a point containing something like "but if we can just get XYZ conditions to the point of ABC, then we'll be victorious!" She has no idea what we're supposed to be doing there, just that we need to stay longer. Apparently 18 years just isn't long enough for Liz Cheney.
For those wondering what the hell is going on over there, I strongly recommend "War Machine" on Netflix. It's a fictional account of the General Stan McChrystal days in Afghanistan and a good roll-up of the problems we face over there as well as the political, professional, and personal issues surrounding the types of people we keep expecting to figure it all out.
Liz, we havent won a war since WWII, so what else is new? Americans are sick to death of going to s**t-hole countries to try to teach others how to run their governments. We have done a poor job of running our own, while running up over a hundred trillion dollars of unsecured debt that following generations will curse us for doing.
No kidding
Liz, that war was lost years ago. We paid for it with the lives, the arm, the legs, the eyes and the skin of many young Americans, we need to leave and if Al Qaeda shows up again we need to nuke it into oblivion.
Then buy them.
Run for president on that Liz. I’ll be happy to vote for someone else.
Liz, put a uniform and take a regular deployment.
No standing at this point.... mouthy inexperience.
I was responding to post#8.
Post#2 is what I think about Afghanistan.
It’s a Muslim, tribal shithole. Time to go...
Maybe Cub Scouts...
I’m not sure they even have those things. Every photo I’ve seen of the place just looks like a sandy shithole from a different angle. Nothing there worth fighting for.
