There are many different scenarios how humanity could perish, but perhaps the least likely is that we ourselves volunteer to do so. For activist Les U. Knight, however, that is exactly the plan he is advocating for: voluntary human extinction to save the planet.
‘I haven’t seen any cohesive argument why our species should continue into the future,’ Knight told DailyMail.com.
‘I have not seen a good reason for us to add one more human to the existing billions when you consider the extinctions of so many other species and when you consider how many people are not being cared for.’
Eschewing labels like leader or founder, Knight began the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, known as VHEMT and pronounced like the word vehement, in 1991. It was a combination of factors that led Knight to VHEMT, which was first launched as a newsletter and then as a website in 1996 that still thrives today.
With the United Nations estimating that the world’s population will hit nearly 9.6 billion by 2050 and the recent uptick in interest in what is known as ‘antinatalism’ and being child-free, the question of human extinction has received more attention lately in Op-Eds and articles in publications like The New York Times – ‘Would Human Extinction Be a Tragedy?’ – and The New Yorker – ‘The Case for Not being Born.’
But Knight, now 71, has been publicly advocating for human extinction for nearly 30 years, and privately has put his money where he’s mouth is: he got a vasectomy when he was 25. While he has no kids of his own, Knight has worked for more than 40 years as a substitute teacher in his native Oregon.

Not true. For most of their history they were as brutal (medieval?) against their perceived enemies as the muzzies. (They fought crusades, boiled heretics, burned witches, imprisoned dissenters, etc. etc.). Only recently did they get squeamish and as a result they’re getting their asses kicked all over the world, by the muslims, the atheists, the perverts, the feminazis...

There is not much information out there about his personal life. I suspect he is gay which is his mechanism to prevent reproduction. He lives in Oregon which has assisted suicide.
So true, so true. Thanks for reminding folks of why we exist. I cherish my grandchildren and I feel sorry for my relatives and friends that don't have kids (and are now too old to have any). The human race will continue long into the future, despite pessimists like that nasty activist who is bitter and childless.
My mother was one of 6 children. The oldest girl married by had no children. The second oldest married, no children. The third oldest married a man in Germany around 1930 got back to the US in 48 with their one son who has had 4 children. My mom had 3 children. One boy never married, other boy married late has one child. I married and had two sons in my early thirties. They had two sons in their early 30s. My mothers younger sister had two sons, one never married, the other had 1 son. My mothers little brother had 3 sons, one killed in car crash early 20s, I think the others had one or 2 children. So from 6 kids to few or none our family has not expanded. My propaganda line is THIRTY + TWO CAN SAVE THE PLANET. That is have no more than 2 children around age 30 or 32.
In conditions of overcrowding rats behave with same sex sexual aggression. I think the gay movement is a response to the stress of overcrowding and will help reduce overpopulation.
