China moving mainland military units into Hong Kong as airport totally closed down

A full-scale military crackdown on the Hong Kongers resisting imposition of mainland-style tyranny may be in the cards, but President Xi and his supporters must understand that they will pay a monumental price for any bloodbath. From Xi’s perspective, this is terrible timing, all the more painful because it was a change in Hong Kong’s extradition law pushed by Beijing that set off the protests.

A pair of videos on YouTube appear to show columns of military units moving into Hong Kong (hat tip: Conservative Treehouse)

And the regime has ended the three days of protests (video here) at Hong Kong International Airport by shutting down the facility, one of the biggest nodes in the world’s international air travel network. Low profile, this is not. And that is one huge problem for the tyrants.

At this very moment, President Trump is fighting a lonely battle with China over its massive theft of intellectual property, currency manipulation and trade barriers.  Beijing has been hoping that it could play off other advanced economies – currently noncombatants – against Trump, offering them the export markets that it would deny to the United States in retaliation for Trump’s tariffs and pressure. But if China brutally cracks down in Hong Kong as it did in Tiananmen 30 years ago, public pressure in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Canada (among others) will make it difficult for their governments to side openly with China. The very last thing that Xi wants is a united front on trade. For almost two decades, China has enjoyed all the fruits of membership in the World Trade Organization without being held to account for its behavior that violates the agreement.

"China is not going to retreat. It is only possible for it to go forward. Any retreat is tantamount to defeat which it will not countenance. The people of Hong Kong will pay a terrible price for the fall of the PRC, but fall it will."

That's right. If Hong Kong "wins," then Taiwan independence looms larger.

Actually, if you look at the Hong Kong Protest Demands, there should be room for compromise....

And if that happens, can Tibet and the other Western Provinces be far behind?

Can there not eventually be a clamor by Chinese people for Elections WITHIN China itself? Unthinkable !! And that is why the Communist Party cannot allow this “virus” ( note the quotes ) to spread.

Indeed. The proverbial snowball gathering.

I think the prevalence of social media and everybody having a "smart" phone is the only reason China hasn't overtly moved as of yet.

If things keep escalating in HK, they will have no choice if they want to maintain their control.

They may create a situation where "protesters" kill police, thereby "necessitating" the PLA intervention.

Which is why they imbed hundreds of police among the protestors, dressed as protesters, so they can better identify the "leaders" and strategically "take them out". Imagine the police doing that in the USA?

Pretty sure you got that wrong. Socialism allows for private production/ownership, but distributes the benefits of that free enterprise to others who don't produce. Communism is what you're thinking of, where the state owns all production and distributes the benefits to all.

Dear me. How ignorant of me all my life, even when I still look up the meaning of words in my later years. Here is what I thought.

Socialism is the practice of economics where the state controls the means of production.

Communism is the practice of economics where the state controls the means of production as well as ownership of all property

Perhaps you are thinking of a modern welfare state such as Sweden. The economics there is private ownership free market. It taxes the $h!t out of personal income. It does not tax businesses. People often think Sweden is a socialist country. It is not. It is a welfare state.

China has an authoritarian political structure. It has a market economy. As far as I know, it does not have a safety net. Everyone works. The elderly are often helped financially by their children. Culturally, the communists were not able to break the family structure in China. Historically, China has always been an authoritarian state with a market economy. It is reverting back to its former self where it sees itself as the center of civilization in a world full of barbarians. The main difference is it now wants to assert itself beyond its borders.

In America, the Marxist have been creeping into the organs of society and corrupting traditional values. Marxist homosexuals are used as the spearhead in the latest assualt on values. Blacks are still used to bolster the welfare. Marxist women are recruited stick their fingers in the eyes of men. The deep state is doing a good job of dividing society to deflect attention from itself. In some ways, we are closer to toppling than china as the deep state continues to support the left nd spew hatred of traditional values. The deep state wants control. It will use those who favor control of society to their advantage.
