House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday asked President Trump to call the Senate back into session for a vote on gun control measures that have already passed the House in the wake of two mass shootings last weekend.
“It is with deep sadness and great urgency that I write following the horrific loss of life that occurred in Gilroy, El Paso, Dayton and Chicago, after which you said, ‘I think background checks are important. I don't want to put guns into the hands of mentally unstable or people with rage or hate, sick people. I'm all in favor of it,’” Pelosi wrote.
“Mr. President, we have an opportunity to work in a bipartisan way to pass gun violence prevention background checks. However, [Senate Majority] Leader Mitch McConnell [R-Ky.], describing himself as the ‘grim reaper,’ has been an obstacle to taking any action,” she added.
The two shootings, one in El Paso, Texas, Saturday and the another in Dayton, Ohio, in the early hours of Sunday morning, killed a total of at least 31 people.
The July 28 Gilroy, Calif., shooting, in which the gunman struck the town’s annual Garlic Festival, killed four, including the gunman.

Come November 2020 - if there are new/additional gun regulations (or worse) on the books - I will not vote for Donald J. Trump. I don’t care WHO else is running. Economy or not. I just don’t care.
The president CAN call both or either of the houses into session.
But he can’t make them do anything.
