NASHVILLE Nashville trauma surgeon Manny Sethi announced Monday he is running for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination to replace retiring Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee.
Sethi, 41, made the announcement as former Gov. Bill Haslam continues weighing a bid for the 2020 GOP nomination. The physician is playing up his status as a "conservative outsider."
"I am not a politician," Sethi said in an announcement video. "I'm a surgeon, an outsider. I'm a conservative and I support President Trump. Above all, I am grateful to God for a story that could have only have happened right here in Tennessee.

Sethi cited his own work in founding a nonprofit group that provides free preventative health care.
In a written statement, Sethi declared, "I am a product of the American dream. I want to make sure that dream is available to our children and grandchildren." He also said "Tennesseans want a conservative outsider who will take on the establishment, support President Trump, fight illegal immigration and work to repeal ObamaCare. That's why I'm running for Senate."

There’s a Trump-certified Republican already in the race. Sethi has no chance.
Means well.
Vandy trauma unit dealing with orthopedic issues
Car wrecks and shotgun blasts
A master of the universe as Tom Wolfe used to call investment bankers
He would be this in the medical field
Who is that?
Not the guy who wears the checked flannel shirt?
Bill Hagerty, most recently Amb. to Japan is running
We need Senators who side with the citizens and the rule of law to counterbalance the Bush League Republicans like Flimsey Grahamnesty who want to give the Democrats a permanent majority with amnesty for illegal aliens.
Sethi is an Indian name. He’ll turn on us after he quits pretending to be a conservative.
I’ll take the surgeon over the private equity investor.
President Donald Trump has endorsed Bill Hagerty, the current ambassador to Japan, in the U.S. Senate race in Tennessee.Tennessee loving Bill Hagerty, who was my Tennessee Victory Chair and is now the very outstanding Ambassador to Japan, will be running for the U.S. Senate. He is strong on crime, borders and our Second Amendment. Loves our military and our vets. Has my complete and total endorsement, Trump wrote on Twitter Friday afternoon. Tennessee Star
“Not the guy who wears the checked flannel shirt?”
That describes Lamar!, the RINO who is retiring.
Hugh Hewitt was a big promoter of Lamar! for President. Lamar’s! most memorable accomplishment was the use the exclamation mark to enhance his wonderfulness. Jeb! picked up that baton, as we all remember.

I wouldn’t count him out completely. He’s already racked up a lot of $$ according to FEC filings. But a lot of it is from out-of-state donors and that rubs me raw.
Still waiting for Hagerty to get the ball rolling and put up a campaign web site and file as a candidate with the FEC. He’s not an official candidate just yet.
Bad reporting. Haslam has already said he is not running. Dr. Mark Green is going to run. He won Blackburns house s3at when she won her Senate race in 2018.
Mark Green is going to run.
Interesting! I might need to get into on him...
Haslam?
Pres. Trump endorsed Hagerty. I’d be surprised if many top-tier candidates got in the race after Trump’s endorsement.
I said Haslam said he’s NOT running. Have no idea who Hagerty is.
This may not be fair but I must admit I still have bad memories of the last time the TN GOPe sent an MD to the Senate...
Bill Hagerty was Romney’s 2012 financial campaign manager.
He could be a RINO on steroids.
Never heard of Sethi ,sounds Ok on immigration.
