McDonalds employee fired after turning away paramedics, thinking they were cops

You know you've reached a new low in life when you get fired from McDonalds.  And that's just what happened to an employee in Madeira Beach, Florida this week.

Here's the back story. A McDonalds employee turned away paramedics Wednesday night, originally thinking they were cops.

It came to light after Anthony Quinn, a paramedic with Sun Star Inc., wrote a Facebook review of the Madeira Beach McDonald's that he and his partner were denied service at the restaurant.

In it, he said he went in to use the bathroom when the employee told him that the restaurant "doesn't accept officers in here."

Quinn then told the employee he was a paramedic and not a police officer.  The employee said he wouldn't serve "anyone with a badge."

When his partner went to order, the employee said he wouldn't serve "his kind."

Casper is the company that runs the location.

They released the following statement.

"We are aware of the unfortunate incident that took place at one of our restaurants last night. We, like you, were upset and disappointed and took immediate action. The employee has been terminated. What occurred does not reflect the values of our brand, our franchise, or the love and admiration we have demonstrated consistently for our friends in law enforcement and first responders. We have reached out to offer our sincerest apology."

It's reminiscent of an incident that happened at a Houston Taco Bell, which fired one of its' employees and apologized after a disparaging note was scribbled on an order handed to a Houston police officer.

The bag containing the officer's food had the message "F*** pigs" written on the bottom, reported WLTX.

The incident happened at the Taco Bell location at 8919 Spring Cypress Road on the same day two Houston police officers were shot in southwest Houston.

"When he got home and he was done eating his tacos, he flipped the bag over and found a very offensive message," said Joe Gamaldi of the Houston Police Officers Union.

The officer posted a picture of the bag on Facebook and called his union, which contacted Taco Bell. The chain and its franchisee said they conducted an investigation. At the conclusion of their inquiry, they said the employee involved in the misconduct was terminated.

"Taco Bell really stepped up to the plate," Gamaldi said. "They fired the employee, and not only apologized to the officer, but to every single Houston police officer."

Taco Bell and its franchisee released the following statement:

"B&G Food Enterprises, the franchise owner of this Spring, Texas location, and Taco Bell in no way endorse this sentiment. We are deeply appreciative of the men and women who serve and protect our communities and our country. The franchisee does not tolerate discrimination in any way, and in the course of the investigation has terminated the employee involved. B&G Food has contacted the officer and the Houston Police Officers Union to apologize directly and assure them of their ongoing support of law enforcement."

This kind of behavior in ‘high end establishments’ is getting worse.

One would think, with a $15/hour wage, the quality of the employees would be higher......

That’s why it’s such a relief eating at Chic-fin-A.

*shrug* If buffaloes can have wings, why can't chickens have fins?

My thought too....hope they don’t need help anytime soon.

But....the paramedics and police would not hesitate to help...even these people. I can attest to the wonderful treatment and great care provided by the paramedics in this area. God bless them.

#5 Full circle is that guy gets into a bad accident and the paramedics show up and recognize the guy and say “we don’t serve their kind” and leaves the scene.

They should be thankful they didn’t get served phlegm burgers.

Did he demand to speak to a manager?

Why put up with such rudeness?

If I was a cop, I would never ever go to a restaurant in uniform. Quickest way to get hepatitis or worse from simian spit

If the characters were all reversed and a person with an Obama cap was treated the same way the left would have already doxxed the employee and get the death threats started pronto.

I wonder if that had been the case, would the news services have kept his name out of it? I suspect the answer is no. ABC would have published his name with the goal of getting him doxxed. I say ABC because this story is lifted verbatim from a local ABC affiliate piece.

I’d say about 90% of the cops I meet are okay. But I have NEVER met a cop who will admit that 10% of cops are unadulterated a$$holes. If cops want to be treated nicely, they’re going to have to start “policing” their own.

No sympathy until I see the 10% getting outed by the good cops.

So... It would have been okay if they HAD been cops?

Ha ha. Now that particular McDonald’s doesn’t employ “his kind.”

Every time I see a service member, a cop, or any other service type person standing in line at a FF place I jump in and pay (well try to) for their meal as thanks.

I don't go to those places anymore, it used to be pretty dang tasty and not too bad on price. Now it's expensive. I look at the bill and me tally up how many groceries that will buy. And it's now slow. And too often surly help, or indifferent, sketchy. And it doesn't really taste that good, they screwed that up, somehow. Junk food is supposed to taste good, or why bother? I crave what it used to taste like, try some, and then feel physically ill. Great business model in there somewhere I'm sure.

Some enterprising restauranteur needs to rebrand immediately and advertise toward conservatives and law enforcement. Their main tagline should be: Our employees will never spit in your food.
