Trump says Ratcliffe is no longer his pick for director of national intelligence

President Donald Trump says Rep. John Ratcliffe will no longer be nominated as director of national intelligence to replace Dan Coats. "Our great Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe is being treated very unfairly by the LameStream Media," Trump wrote on Twitter. "Rather than going through months of slander and libel, I explained to John how miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people John has therefore decided to stay in Congress where he has done such an outstanding job representing the people of Texas, and our Country. I will be announcing my nomination for DNI shortly." Trump privately voiced concern in recent days about Ratcliffe's ability to be confirmed as the next director of national intelligence, according to two people who spoke with him. Trump had been assured by allies before selecting Ratcliffe that he would be an easy pick, and so the president was surprised when Ratcliffe started facing issues from senators who had their own concerns.

Trump beat back again?

He loses more than he wins, which is to be expected in the current environment. At least he keeps trying.

facing issues from senators who had their own concerns

Who are these unnamed Senators? If they are Dems we don't need their votes. If they are Reps, they are traitors and should be outed. Exposing Mueller so the world could see his ineptitude and corruption should not disqualify Ratcliffe from being DNI.

Well, casualties do happen when you try to take on a deeply entrenched political establishment that has the full support of EVERY SINGLE establishment in society, most of the large financial interests and at least half of the population of a nation.

Don’t think this will be straightforward or bloodless. And yes, you are, for a very long time, going to suffer as many, or more, defeats than you will enjoy victories.

We should at least show the intestinal fortitude that our parents and grandparents showed in WW2...this opponent has a lot more money and power (and we have fewer allies) than those enemies had.

Those in power, left and right, do not want to have their dealings scrutinized, or made public.

The NSA has ears and eyes everywhere.

I know. We sold them some...................

Both political parties are institionally corrupt at their cores and unreformable. Individual Senators are not the problem and removing them won’t fix the problem. That won’t be happening, anyway. Most everybody loves their RINO and thinks the other RINO is the problem.

Current inside word is that Sue Gordon will be resigning to avoid being fired. Apparently Trump doesn’t want her even as acting DNI.

I'd rather have Ratcliffe in the House too. I don't understand the hysteria with others here. There are a lot of other people besides Ratcliffe qualified for the DNI posting and it would be likely more difficult replacing Ratcliffe in the House.

I prefer to see the upside.

Unlikely. They will likely hold pro forma sessions to prevent this as has been done for the past few years (going back well into the Obama administration).

Occam’s razor says he couldn’t pass the FBI background check. And no Trump appointee who is the least bit threatening to them will ever pass again.
