‘Louder and more hateful’: Big-city leaders say Trump’s attacks on Baltimore are escalation of his strategy to denigrate diverse, liberal areas

President Trump’s denunciations of Baltimore as an uninhabitable city are the latest in a string of disparaging attacks on diverse, liberal enclaves as violent, dirty and outside the mainstream — rhetoric that paints those areas of the country as fundamentally less American than whiter, more conservative strongholds.

Trump denigrated Maryland’s largest city over the weekend as “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” and blamed it on Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), who is black, and claimed on Sunday that the lawmaker himself is “racist.” Long before, Trump had taken aim at other major cities, some of which are predominantly African American, and their elected leaders.

He called San Francisco streets “disgusting,” labeled Oakland and Ferguson, Mo., among the most dangerous places in the world, and lambasted the “crime spree” and “terrible blight” in Chicago. He also tagged Atlanta as “crime infested” and said the city represented by civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) was “falling apart.”

"“Enough is enough — it’s disrespectful,” said Khalilah M. Harris, who was one of 149 African American officials from the Obama administration who signed an opinion piece in The Washington Post on Sunday denouncing Trump’s attacks on minority lawmakers. "

Trump is giving the RATS a lot more respect then they have been giving him as president.

No khalilah, it won't be enough until diseased liberal enclaves are cleansed and made habitable.

It’s sort of an outdated idea, most major US cities are a lot nicer than they are given credit for. (maybe not Baltimore) But over the last decade or two there has been a lot of urban renewal or gentrification whatever you want to call it and the suburbs and rural areas have a lot more negatives than people talk about openly. A lot of the poverty and things associated with it (drugs, crime, teen pregnancy what have you) are much worse in the cheaper suburbs and rural areas

Just me personally but I live in DFW and it’s so much better here now than it was in the 70s & 80s and I slowly realized this wasn’t just here but basically everywhere

When rational people talk about high areas of crime, they call balls and strikes and blame the criminal elements including politicians.

When hysterical snowflakes talk about high areas of crime, they o secure the truth and blame guns.

Rational policies lower crime and help the people most harmed by crime, who are typically the poor and minorities.

Hysterical policies like gun control leave the crime rate unchanged or elevate it which helps the people least harmed by crime, who are typically Lilly white delicate affluent liberals in "safe" areas.

Small wonder the Dem pols are losing their minds right now.

The question that matters is: Did President Trump tell the truth about these cities? The answer is YES - Trump told the truth about these cities.

The question that doesn't matter is: did someone's feelings get hurt...

I understand what you’re saying, but that doesn’t apply across the board. Jersey City NJ has seen similar gentrification IN PARTS (but in general isn’t a great place), while Newark NJ (slightly further from NYC) is still a dangerous dump - attempts to gentrify are falling flat. Like Baltimore, Newark has a primarily black power structure, while Jersey City does not.

Our rural areas see some poverty (it is “The Garden State” - we do have a lot of farms here), but the cost of living in the suburbs is so high (primarily due to property taxes) that people who get caught up in destructive behavior can only live where a massive nanny-state will provide for all of their needs - and only cities here are really equipped to do that. I assume from my limited knowledge of Seattle, San Francisco, even Baltimore, that there is a huge industry in giving sh!t away that attracts people who can’t provide for themselves - or use proper bathrooms.

Looks like there’s another word to add to my Newspeak dictionary: “Denigrate” which means “to tell the truth about something leftist.”
