When President Donald Trump begrudgingly signed a budget deal he called ridiculous in order to get increases for the military budget, he asserted: Im not going to do it again.
That was 16 months ago.
Now, the Trump administration and House Democrats reportedly have reached a deal to suspend the debt limit temporarily and increase spending by more than $300 billion with only limited cuts.
Around 5:45 p.m. in Washington, the president tweeted:
"I am pleased to announce that a deal has been struck with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy - on a two-year Budget and Debt Ceiling, with no poison pills...."
This was a real compromise in order to give another big victory to our Great Military and Vets! Trump added on Twitter.
The president is again touting military funding.
I think were doing pretty well on a budget, Trump had told reporters earlier Monday in the Oval Office. Its very important we take care of our military. Our military was depleted and in the last two and a half years weve undepleted it, to put it mildly. We have made it stronger than ever before.
Trump wanted a total of $750 billion for the military, but is getting $738 billion, nominally higher than Democrats counterproposal of $733 billion. Its a $22 billion increase from the current fiscal year.
The two-year deals reported outline would also combine a temporary suspension of the debt limit through July 31, 2021, with raising the spending caps in the Budget Control Act for fiscal years 2020 and 2021. That means the federal government would have no limit on how much it can borrow.

Of course, if somebody has a sound explanation of why this affair would actually be acceptable when similar things were not under Obozo, I'm all ears. However, tropes such as "He can only do so much, given the Congress he has" are right out.
Actual Trump tweet in original.
PING!
And why in heck did MNUCHIN negotiate with PELOSI? What happened to Trump actually negotiating with Pelosi and Schumer?
It concerns me too but anybody, from either party, would be even worse.
Trump listens to McConnell too much.
We still must insist on better.
Yeah, I can see that. Did the turtle just sit there in the consult (presumably after MNUCHIN and Pelosi worked things out) and act like a post turtle?
It wasn’t part of his platform.
Are you happy with everything else?
This isn’t a hill to do on this year. The Dems would have used every cudgel available to them and excoriate Trump til election if he held out.
He’s not running again after next year. Let’s judge him then.
He likes big spending.
Remember, McConnell says we need to cut Social Security
Even though theres enough money to fund everything in this latest budget deal.
To be fair, they really don’t have a choice. It’s a shell game until the pea can no longer be hidden. It’s either this or total collapse/mayhem. And when that happens, it will be worldwide.
This explains it in a very entertaining way (Think of the little girl as gen X):
Please note that this was produced in 2013...

Not a dang thing he can do with the GOP-e doing nothing but RAT-light.
Expose the pea now and ruin everything, or expose the pea later and ruing everything even more. Smaller ruin now, bigger ruin later.
I remember Dick Armey talking about how, it was 97 or 98 I think, wasnt the year to try to do tax reform. The hill on which we fight for fiscal sanity is always just in the horizon but never gets any closer. And thats a fact
Yes, why is Trump caving? No budget cuts?
Don’t blame President Trump for being ‘forced’ to agree to an inflated budget. Point the finger at GOP Rinos and every conservativex who was too lazy to vote in 2018.
Sad.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again.
Democrats know that their base will never care if government is spendthrift and they also know that the Republican base will.
Cooperating with Republican administrations or “moderate” Republicans in congress has no down side for Democrats but it only ever backfires on the Republicans.
I can’t for the life of me understand why Republicans never learn this? Why people who choose to have an “(R)” after their name keep falling for the idea that Democrats are to be gotten along with, compromised with, to give up their promises because being a statesman-like and liked by Democrats is more important.
The old saying is fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me ... but with Republicans we’ve had decades of them being fooled on many things and they still have the balls to act surprised when it happens.
It’s like Stockholm Syndrome....
I don’t like it either but, we have other battles to win as well.
Like all the other great things he has accomplished and an election.
Expose the pea now and ruin everything, or expose the pea later and ruing everything even more. Smaller ruin now, bigger ruin later.
I think that’s the situation we’re in and everybody knows it. I think that is why we had QE and those “scary/secret” congressional meetings in Spring of 2008. They did all they could do - which is to put off the inevitable for a while longer.

That thing never went away. They just put a band aid on it.
I agree. Hopefully, after Trump gets reelected he will feel politically safe enough to take this on, call their bluff, and let them shut down the government.
